Abstract
Embodiments of fiber surface finish enhanced flocked surface impact force absorbing structure include a plurality of flock fibers disposed on a substrate, a surface coating applied to the plurality of flock fibers, and in another embodiment, a divider fabric bonded to the tops of flock fibers.
Claims14
An impact force absorbing structure comprising:
- a substrate;
- a plurality of monofilament flock fibers, each having first and second ends, each of the plurality of monofilament flock fibers being attached by an adhesive at the first ends to a surface of the substrate with the second ends extending away from the substrate;
- a divider fabric disposed adjacent to the second ends of each of the plurality of monofilament flock fibers;
- a surface coating applied to a surface of each of the plurality of flocked and attached monofilament flock fibers adjacent to the first ends of the monofilament flock fibers and disposed between the divider fabric and the substrate;
- and
- wherein the surface coating comprises one of:
- a flat finish polyurethane based varnish spray;
- a gloss finish varnish spray;
- a semi-gloss finish varnish spray;
- a water based acrylic varnish spray coating;
- a pigmented spray paint with nano-silica particles;
- a pigmented spray paint with alumina particles;
- a silica friction enhancing component;
- and
- alumina powder.
