## Abstract

Mobile robots and methods involving mobile robots are provided. In one method, a mobile robot performs a hospitality service for a guest of a hospitality business. The mobile robot is operated at the hospitality business.

## Claims

### Claim 1

An apparatus for operating at a hospitality business that receives a guest, the apparatus comprising:
a mobile robot comprising an item support, a security system, a drive system, a communication system, a guest key system, a user interface and a controller, wherein the guest key system comprises a drawer containing one or more blank keycards and a card reader, and wherein the guest key system issues an encoded key containing a combination to a lock for an assigned room by encoding the combination onto a blank keycard via the card reader;
one or more of the user interface and the communication system adapted to receive check in information associated with the guest, the check in information comprising at least an identity of the guest, order information of the guest, and payment information of the guest, to yield received check in information;
the controller adapted to update a central database associated with the hospitality business based on at least a portion of the received check in information;
the controller adapted to signal the guest key system to issue a key containing the combination to the lock for the assigned room at the hospitality business, the guest key system comprising a card reader configured to:
encode the combination to the lock onto the key in response to the key being swiped through the card reader, to yield the encoded key; and
decode the combination to the lock from the encoded key in response to the encoded key being swiped through the card reader;
the item support configured to receive, at a first location, luggage associated with the guest;
the security system configured to secure the luggage within the item support to prevent unauthorized access to the luggage; and
the controller adapted to signal the drive system to move the mobile robot in order to transport the luggage from the first location to a second location, wherein the second location is the assigned room corresponding to the key issued by the guest key system.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The apparatus as defined in claim 1, wherein the item support is within a cabinet configured with the mobile robot.

### Claim 3 (depends on 1)

The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the user interface comprises one or more of a touch screen, the card reader, and a microphone.

### Claim 4 (depends on 1)

The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the fully autonomous mobile robot comprises a sensor system comprising one or more locator sensors configured to spatially locate the fully autonomous mobile robot relative to at least one of its surrounding environment, its geographic location, or one or more locators.

### Claim 5 (depends on 1)

The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the mobile robot further comprises a sensor system transmitting sensor data to the controller, such that the controller signals the drive system to autonomously move the mobile robot from the first location to the second location based on the sensor data.

### Claim 6 (depends on 1)

The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the order information of the guest comprises one or more of: hospitality services ordered by the guest, an estimated length of stay of the guest, and an estimated departure time of the guest.

### Claim 7 (depends on 1)

The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the payment information of the guest comprises a credit card number, a debit card number, or a charge account number.

### Claim 8 (depends on 1)

The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the check in information associated with the guest is received at a greeting location corresponding to the mobile robot.

### Claim 9 (depends on 8)

The apparatus of claim 8, wherein the first location where the item support receives luggage associated with the guest is the greeting location.
