## Abstract

A method of transferring money from a sender to a recipient using a third party money transfer service a point of sale device receiving transaction details for a requested money transfer; determining whether the requested transaction is an allowable transaction; and either aborting the transaction; attempting to identify the sender as an existing customer using the transaction details; using the sender's transaction history and the transaction details to determine whether to allow the requested transaction to proceed. If the requested transaction is allowed to proceed, the method includes creating a money transfer record for the requested transaction; associating a money transfer control number to the money transfer record; and using the transaction details to determine whether to monitor the requested transaction.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A method of performing transfers between senders and recipients using a third party transfer service, the method comprising:
receiving, via a point of sale device, transaction details for a requested transfer from a sender;
determining a unique customer identifier associated with the sender, within the third party transfer service, by:
(a) using the transaction details for the requested transfer, attempting to identify the sender as an existing customer of a third party transfer service; and
(b)(i) in response to identifying the sender as an existing customer of the third party transfer service, retrieving a unique customer identifier and a transaction history associated with the sender, from the third party transfer service; or
(b)(ii) in response to determining that the sender cannot be identified as an existing customer of the third party transfer service, generating a new unique customer identifier associated with the sender within the third party transfer service;
determining whether the requested transfer is an allowable transaction, based on the transaction details received via the point of sale device, wherein determining whether the requested transfer is an allowable transaction is based on: (1) the transaction details of the requested transfer, or an aggregation of the requested transfer by determining whether the aggregation of the requested transfer exceeds a predetermined aggregation threshold, and (2) based on the transaction history associated with the sender by determining whether a transaction pattern within the transaction history associated with the sender comprises unallowable transaction patterns;
in response to a determination that the requested transfer is an allowable transaction:
initiating a transfer record for the requested transfer, the transfer record including the unique customer identifier associated with the sender;
associating a transfer control number with the transfer record; and
using the transfer control number to perform a transfer to a recipient via the third party transfer service.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The method of performing transfers of claim 1, wherein the third party transfer service stores a unique customer identifier and a transaction history for each existing customer, wherein the unique customer identifiers are not provided to the customers.

### Claim 3 (depends on 2)

The method of performing transfers of claim 2, wherein the transaction details received from the sender does not include the unique customer identifier associated with the sender.

### Claim 4 (depends on 1)

The method of performing transfers of claim 1, further comprising:
in response to the determination that the requested transfer is an allowable transaction, determining whether the allowable transaction is to be monitored, based on (1) the transaction details received via the point of sale device, and (2) whether or not the attempt to identify the sender as an existing customer of a third party transfer service was successful.

### Claim 5 (depends on 1)

The method of performing transfers of claim 1, further comprising:
determining, based at least in part on the attempt to identify the sender as an existing customer of a third party transfer service being successful, that the allowable transaction is to be monitored; and
in response to the determination that the allowable transaction is to be monitored:
(a) receiving a request from the recipient at a recipient location, to receive funds associated with the requested transfer;
(b) attempting to identify the recipient as an existing customer of a third party transfer service, based at least on the transaction details for the requested transfer and the recipient location from which the recipient requested to receive the funds.

### Claim 6 (depends on 5)

The method of performing transfers of claim 5, further comprising:
in response to determining that the recipient is an existing customer of the third party transfer service:
retrieving, a transaction history associated with the recipient from the third party transfer service; and

### Claim 7 (depends on 5)

The method of performing transfers of claim 5, further comprising:
in response to determining that the recipient cannot be identified as an existing customer of the third party transfer service:
generating a new unique customer identifier associated with the recipient within the third party transfer service; and
completing the requested transfer to the recipient, via the third party transfer service, without performing a second determination of whether the requested transfer is an allowable transaction based on the new unique customer identifier associated with the recipient within the third party transfer service.

### Claim 8 (depends on 7)

The method of performing transfers of claim 7, wherein the new unique customer identifier associated with the recipient is not provided to the recipient.

### Claim 9

A system for performing transfers using a third party transfer service, the system comprising:
a host computer system associated with a third party transfer service, the host computer system comprising one or more processor and memory communicatively coupled with and readable by the one or more processors and having stored therein processor-readable instructions which, when executed by the one or more processors, causes the host computer system to receive and respond to requests from point of sale devices; and

memory communicatively coupled with and readable by the one or more processors and having stored therein processor-readable instructions which, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the particular point of sale device to:
receive, via the one or more input devices, transaction details for a requested transfer from a sender;
determine a unique customer identifier associated with the sender, within the third party transfer service, by:
(a) using the transaction details for the requested transfer, attempting to identify the sender as an existing customer of a third party transfer service; and
(b)(i) in response to identifying the sender as an existing customer of the third party transfer service, retrieving a unique customer identifier and a transaction history associated with the sender, from the host computer system; or
(b)(ii) in response to determining that the sender cannot be identified as an existing customer of the third party transfer service, generating a new unique customer identifier associated with the sender using the host computer system;
determine whether the requested transfer is an allowable transaction, based on the transaction details received via the point of sale device, wherein determining whether the requested transfer is an allowable transaction is based on: (1) the transaction details of the requested transfer, or an aggregation of the requested transfer by determining whether the aggregation of the requested transfer exceeds a predetermined aggregation threshold, and (2) based on the transaction history associated with the sender by determining whether a transaction pattern within the transaction history associated with the sender comprises unallowable transaction patterns;
in response to a determination that the requested transfer is an allowable transaction:
initiate a transfer record for the requested transfer, the transfer record including the unique customer identifier associated with the sender;
associate a transfer control number with the transfer record; and
use the transfer control number to perform a transfer to a recipient via the host computer system.
