Automatic oil spill detection system

A hydraulic system comprising:

• (a) a control valve assembly having a main inlet port and a main outlet port and having at least one work section in fluid communication with at least one work circuit;
• (b) a pump in fluid communication with the main inlet port of the control valve assembly;
• (c) a reservoir in fluid communication with the main outlet port of the control valve assembly;
• and
• (d) an electronic controller configured to detect a leak between the pump and the control valve assembly, a leak between the reservoir and the control valve assembly and a leak between the at least one work circuit and the control valve assembly;
• (e) wherein the electronic controller implements all three of a first, second and third leak detection and isolation protocol, wherein:
• i. the first leak detection protocol is implemented to isolate the pump from the control valve assembly upon the detection of a leak between the pump and the control valve assembly;
• ii. the second leak detection protocol is implemented to isolate the reservoir from the control valve assembly upon the detection of a leak between the reservoir and the control valve assembly based on a first flow consumption correlation range;
• and
• iii. the third leak detection protocol is implemented to detect and isolate a leak between the work circuit and the work section based on a second flow consumption correlation range when the work section is in a flow state.
