Abstract
A network hub may be configured to dynamically select a desired frequency (among available licensed spectrum holdings of a carrier) at which to operate. A network hub may send a current geographic location of the network hub to a server computer, and, in response, the network hub may receive, from the server computer, multiple available frequencies at which a configurable software defined radio (SDR) of the network hub can be configured to operate. The network hub may perform a network scan to determine respective current conditions of individual frequencies of the multiple available frequencies, select a particular frequency based at least in part on the current conditions of the individual frequencies, and configure the configurable SDR to operate at the selected frequency.
Claims20
A network hub comprising:
- a configurable software defined radio (SDR);
- one or more processors;
- and
- memory storing instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the network hub to:
- send, over a computer network to a server computer, a current geographic location of the network hub;
- receive, from the server computer over the computer network and in response to sending the current geographic location, multiple available frequencies at which the configurable SDR can be configured to operate;
- perform a network scan to determine a first radio signal strength associated with a first available frequency of the multiple available frequencies and a second radio signal strength with the second available frequency of the multiple available frequencies and one of a first level of congestion associated with the first available frequency and a second level of congestion associated with the second available frequency;
- select a frequency among the multiple available frequencies based at least in part on a comparison between the first radio signal strength and the second radio signal strength and a comparison between the first level of congestion and the second level of congestion;
- and
- configure the configurable SDR to operate at the frequency.
A computer-implemented method implemented by a network hub, the method comprising:
- determining, using a location determination module of the network hub, a current geographic location of the network hub;
- sending, over a computer network, the current geographic location of the network hub to a server computer;
- in response to the sending of the current geographic location, receiving, from the server computer over the computer network, multiple available frequencies at which a configurable software defined radio (SDR) of the network hub can be configured to operate, the multiple available frequencies comprising at least a first available frequency and a second available frequency;
- performing a network scan to determine a first radio signal strength associated with the first available frequency and a second radio signal strength with the second available frequency and one of a first level of congestion associated with the first available frequency and a second level of congestion associated with the second available frequency;
- selecting the first available frequency based at least in part on a comparison between the first radio signal strength and the second radio signal strength and a comparison between the first level of congestion and the second level of congestion;
- and
- configuring the configurable SDR to operate at the first available frequency.
One or more non-transitory computer-readable media storing computer-executable instructions that, when executed, cause one or more processors of a network hub to perform acts comprising:
- detecting movement of the network hub;
- determining, in response to detecting the movement and using a location determination module of the network hub, a current geographic location of the network hub;
- sending, over a computer network, the current geographic location of the network hub to a server computer;
- in response to the sending of the current geographic location, receiving, from the server computer over the computer network, multiple available frequencies at which a configurable software defined radio (SDR) of the network hub can be configured to operate, the multiple available frequencies comprising at least a first available frequency and a second available frequency;
- performing a network scan to determine a first radio signal strength associated with the first available frequency and a second signal strength associated with the second available frequency and one of a first level of congestion associated with the first available frequency and a second level of congestion associated with the second available frequency;
- selecting the first available frequency based at least in part on a comparison between the first radio signal strength and the second radio signal strength current condition and a comparison between the first level of congestion and the second level of congestion;
- and
- configuring the configurable SDR to operate at the first available frequency.
