Open public internet-of-things systems and methods

An open public Internet-of-Things (OP-IoT) system comprising:

• an OP-IoT device that includes:
• a physical sensor that is configured to measure a physical phenomenon;
• a locational sensor configured to determine a location of the OP-IoT device;
• a communication unit;
• one or more processors;
• and
• a non-transitory memory having encoded thereon computer-readable instructions that, in response to execution by the one or more processors, cause performance of operations comprising:
• authenticating and configuring a registered device such that the registered device is communicatively coupled to the OP-IoT device via a communication network;
• communicating private information with the registered device via the communication network, the private information including data measured by the physical sensor that is configured for specific use by the registered device;
• broadcasting a network address of the OP-IoT device and the location of the OP-IoT device such that mobile devices within a particular proximity of the OP-IoT device has access to the network address and the location;
• receiving an access request for public information at the network address from a mobile device of the mobile devices that are positioned within a particular proximity to the OP-IoT device, the public information includes a raw form of data measured by the physical sensor that is configured to be locally processed on the mobile devices;
• and
• directly communicating the public information to the mobile device via a communication network without authentication or configuration between the OP-IoT device and the mobile device.
