Abstract
Various techniques are provided that may be implemented at one or more of a plurality of co-located mobile devices. For example, a first mobile device may identify a plurality of location determination tasks, transmit a request indicative of a subset of the plurality of location determination tasks to be performed by a second mobile device, and receive a response to the request.
Claims38
A mobile device location determination method comprising:
- establishing, at a first mobile device, a short-range wireless communication link between the first mobile device and a second mobile device;
- receiving, at the first mobile device from the second mobile device via the short-range wireless communication link, an indication of an ability of the second mobile device to provide location information;
- sending, based on the indication, a request from the first mobile device to the second mobile device via the short-range wireless communication link for the second mobile device to provide the location information based on a first location technology;
- receiving the location information from the second mobile device at the first mobile device via the short-range wireless communication link;
- taking one or more measurements to obtain one or more positioning measurement values according to a second location technology that is different from the first location technology;
- and
- determining a location for the first mobile device using the location information and the one or more positioning measurement values;
- wherein one of the first location technology and the second location technology is configured to obtain motion information from one or more inertial sensors for use in determining location and the other one of the first location technology and the second location technology is configured to obtain measurements of wireless signals for use in determining location.
A first mobile device comprising:
- a communication interface;
- a satellite positioning system (SPS) receiver;
- one or more sensors;
- and
- a processing unit coupled to the communication interface, to the SPS receiver, and to the one or more sensors, the processing unit being configured to:
- establish a short-range wireless communication link between the first mobile device and a second mobile device;
- receive, from the second mobile device via the short-range wireless communication link, an indication of an ability of the second mobile device to provide location information;
- send, based on the indication, a request to the second mobile device via the short-range wireless communication link for the second mobile device to provide the location information based on a first location technology;
- receive the location information from the second mobile device via the short-range wireless communication link;
- obtain one or more positioning measurement values from the communication interface, the SPS receiver, or the one or more sensors, or a combination thereof, according to a second location technology that is different from the first location technology;
- and
- determine a location for the first mobile device using the location information and the one or more positioning measurement values;
- wherein one of the first location technology and the second location technology is configured to obtain motion information from one or more inertial sensors for use in determining location and the other one of the first location technology and the second location technology is configured to obtain measurements of wireless signals for use in determining location.
A first mobile device comprising:
- means for establishing a short-range wireless communication link between the first mobile device and a second mobile device;
- means for receiving, from the second mobile device via the short-range wireless communication link, an indication of an ability of the second mobile device to provide location information;
- means for sending, based on the indication, a request to the second mobile device via the short-range wireless communication link for the second mobile device to provide the location information based on a first location technology;
- means for receiving the location information from the second mobile device via the short-range wireless communication link;
- means for taking one or more measurements to obtain one or more positioning measurement values according to a second location technology that is different from the first location technology;
- and
- means for determining a location for the first mobile device using the location information and the one or more positioning measurement values;
- wherein one of the first location technology and the second location technology is configured to obtain motion information from one or more inertial sensors for use in determining location and the other one of the first location technology and the second location technology is configured to obtain measurements of wireless signals for use in determining location.
A non-transitory, processor-readable storage medium comprising processor-readable instructions configured to cause a processor to:
- establish a short-range wireless communication link between a first mobile device and a second mobile device;
- receive, from the second mobile device via the short-range wireless communication link, an indication of an ability of the second mobile device to provide location information;
- send, based on the indication, a request to the second mobile device via the short-range wireless communication link for the second mobile device to provide the location information based on a first location technology;
- receive the location information from the second mobile device via the short-range wireless communication link;
- obtain one or more positioning measurement values according to a second location technology that is different from the first location technology;
- and
- determine a location for the first mobile device using the location information and the one or more positioning measurement values;
- wherein one of the first location technology and the second location technology is configured to obtain motion information from one or more inertial sensors for use in determining location and the other one of the first location technology and the second location technology is configured to obtain measurements of wireless signals for use in determining location.
