Abstract

A broadcast management system creates, manages, and streams a broadcast of an event from videos captured from multiple cameras. A video capture system comprising multiple cameras captures videos of the event and transmits the videos to a broadcast management server. The broadcast management server generates a website or other graphical interface that simultaneously displays the captured videos in a time-synchronized manner. A broadcast manager user creates a broadcast by selecting which video to output to the broadcast at any given time. A broadcast map is stored for each broadcast that includes all of the broadcast decisions made by the broadcast manager user such that the broadcast can be recreated at a later time by applying the broadcast map to the raw videos. Using a viewer client, viewers can browse or search for broadcasts and select a broadcast for viewing.

Dependent claims

A method for broadcasting an event using a broadcast management system, the method comprising:

receiving a first video associated with a first location of the event, the first video captured using a first handheld camera device;
receiving a second video associated with one of the first location and a second location of the event, the second video captured using a second handheld camera device;
extracting first metadata from the first video and second metadata from the second video, the first metadata including a first start time timestamp of the first video and a first identifier of the first handheld camera device, the second metadata including a second start time timestamp of the second video and a second identifier of the second handheld camera device;
generating a first set of instructions using the first metadata and the second metadata;
displaying, via an interface of the broadcast management system, the first video and the second video in a time-synchronized manner using the first set of instructions;
generating a second set of instructions based on a selection of the first video from the interface at a first elapsed time timestamp and a selection of the second video from the interface at a second elapsed time timestamp, the second elapsed time timestamp being after the first elapsed time timestamp;
and
generating a broadcast map based on the second set of instructions, the broadcast map indicative of a transition to the first video at the first elapsed time timestamp and between the first video and the second video at the second elapsed time timestamp.

A broadcast management system for broadcasting an event, the system comprising:

an interface;
a non-transient memory;
and
a processor configured to execute instructions stored in the non-transient memory to:
receive a first video associated with a first location of the event, the first video captured using a first video capture system;
receive a second video associated with a second location of the event, the second video captured using a second video capture system;
extract first metadata from the first video and second metadata from the second video, the first metadata including a first start time timestamp of the first video and a first identifier of the first video capture system, and the second metadata including a second start time timestamp of the second video and a second identifier of the second video capture system;
generate a first set of instructions using the first metadata and the second metadata, the first set of instructions identifying first and second stream windows within the interface for display of the first video and the second video, respectively, a first time to begin playback of the first video in the first stream window, and a second time to begin playback of the second video in the second stream window, the first time and the second time being based on the first start time timestamp and the second start time timestamp, respectively;
and
display, via the interface of the broadcast management system, the first video and the second video within the first stream window and the second stream window in a time-synchronized manner in respect to a universal time using the first set of instructions.

A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium for broadcasting an event using a broadcast management system, wherein the non-transitory computer-readable storage medium includes executable instructions that, when executed by a processor, facilitate performance of operations, the operations comprising:

receiving a first video associated with a first location of the event, the first video captured using a first consumer grade camera;
receiving a second video associated with one of the first location and a second location of the event, the second video captured using a second consumer grade camera;
extracting first metadata from the first video and second metadata from the second video, the first metadata including a first start time timestamp of the first video and a first identifier of the first consumer grade camera, the first start time timestamp being generated via a first universal clock of the first consumer grade camera, the second metadata including a second start time timestamp of the second video and a second identifier of the second consumer grade camera, the second start time timestamp being generated via a second universal clock of the second consumer grade camera;
and
displaying, via an interface of the broadcast management system, the first video and the second video in a time-synchronized manner by displaying the first video in a first stream window of the interface at a first time based on the first start time timestamp and displaying the second video in a second stream window of the interface at a second time based on the second start time timestamp, the second time being after the first time with respect to a universal time.
