Abstract
A photogrammetry system and method is provided. The system includes a two-dimensional (2D) camera operable to acquire a 2D image and a 2D video image. A user interface is provided having a display. A controller having a processor that performs a method for determining locations where photogrammetry images should be acquired and displaying an indicator on the user interface indicating to the operator a direction of movement to acquire the next photogrammetry image.
Claims33
A photogrammetry system comprising:
- a two-dimensional (2D) camera operable to acquire a 2D image at a first resolution and a second resolution, the first resolution being higher than the second resolution, the 2D camera further being operable to acquire a 2D video image at the second resolution;
- a user interface having a display;
- and
- a controller having a processor that is responsive to nontransitory executable computer instructions to perform a method comprising:
- acquiring a 2D image of an object to be measured at an initial position, the 2D image being at the first resolution;
- acquiring a first photogrammetry image of the object with the 2D camera at a first position, the first photogrammetry image being at the first resolution;
- identifying a second position for acquisition of a second photogrammetry image with the 2D camera based at least in part on the 2D image, the first photogrammetry image, the field of view of the 2D camera and a predetermined amount of overlap between the first photogrammetry image and a current frame of a video image;
- indicating on the display a direction of movement from the first position to the second position;
- acquiring the second photogrammetry image of the object with the 2D camera at the second position, the second photogrammetry image being at the second resolution;
- and
- determining three-dimensional (3D) coordinates of one or more points on the object based at least in part on the first photogrammetry image and the second photogrammetry image using photogrammetry.

A method comprising:
- acquiring a 2D image of an object with a 2D camera to be measured at an initial position, the 2D image being at a first resolution;
- moving the 2D camera from the initial position to a first position;
- acquiring a first photogrammetry image of the object with the 2D camera at the first position, the first photogrammetry image being at the first resolution;
- identifying a second position for acquisition of a second photogrammetry image with 2D camera based at least in part on the 2D image, the first photogrammetry image, the field of view of the 2D camera and a predetermined amount of overlap between the first photogrammetry image and the second photogrammetry image;
- indicating on the display a direction of motion from the first position to the second position;
- moving the 2D camera from the first position to the second position;
- acquiring the second photogrammetry image of the object with the 2D camera at the second position, the second photogrammetry image being at a second resolution;
- and
- determining three-dimensional (3D) coordinates of one or more points on the object based at least in part on the first photogrammetry image and the second photogrammetry image.
