Abstract
Configurable and self-optimizing business process applications can be used in conjunction with features of a content management system, for example including generating and providing guidance relating to a decision or action point within a workflow instance, allowing a user to invoke an exception that includes a deviation from a set of actions defined by the business process application, saving a modified version of the business process application in the content management repository, and monitoring performance metrics of the business process application and the modified business process application when used by additional users in additional workflow instances. Methods, systems, and articles of manufacture are described.
Claims20
A computer program product comprising a non-transitory machine-readable medium storing instructions that, when executed by at least one programmable processor in conjunction with a content management system comprising a content management system repository having stored therein a application and case data storing one or more content items relating to a case guided by the application, cause the at least one programmable processor to perform operations comprising:
- detecting, at a computer device having a user interface supported by the application, use by a user of a feature in the user interface relating to a workflow instance as part of the case guided by the application;
- generating, by the application, guidance relating to a decision or action point within the workflow instance based on the case data, the guidance comprising a recommended action for completing the decision or action point within the workflow instance;
- providing the guidance for display within the user interface;
- allowing the user to invoke an exception that includes a deviation from the recommended action;
- saving a modified version of the application and case data for the modified application in the content management repository, the modified version comprising the exception;
- accessing the case data in the content management system repository from an application optimization engine;
- monitoring, by the application optimization engine, performance metrics of the application and the modified version of the application when used by additional users in additional workflow instances, the monitoring comprising retaining, in the content management repository, second case data for the workflow instance as well as other currently and previously executed workflow instances based on the application and the modified application;
- comparing, based on a common application model definition, a definition of the application to a definition of the modified version of the business application, wherein the definition of the application and the definition of the modified version of the business application define functionality for guiding the user through a set of actions consistent with completion of the workflow instance;
- and
- providing, by the application optimization engine and via the user interface, recommendations of suggested exceptions to the application and/or to the modified application, the recommendations based on the comparing and the second case data.
A system comprising:
- a content management system repository having stored therein a application and case data storing one or more content items relating to a case guided by the application
- a computer configured to perform operations comprising:
- detecting, at a user interface of the computer supported by the application, use by a user of a feature in the user interface relating to a workflow instance as part of the case guided by the application;
- generating, by the application, guidance relating to a decision or action point within the workflow instance based on case data stored within a content management system repository also storing one or more content items relating to the case, the guidance comprising a recommended action for completing the decision or action point within the workflow instance;
- allowing the user to invoke an exception that includes a deviation from the recommended action;
- saving a modified version of the application and case data for the modified application in the content management repository, the modified version comprising the exception;
- accessing the case data in the content management system repository from an application optimization engine;
- monitoring, by the application optimization engine, performance metrics of the application and the modified version of the application when used by additional users in additional workflow instances, the monitoring comprising retaining, in the content management repository, second case data for the workflow instance as well as other currently and previously executed workflow instances based on the application and the modified application;
- comparing, based on a common application model definition, a definition of the application to a definition of the modified version of the business application, wherein the definition of the application and the definition of the modified version of the business application define functionality for guiding the user through a set of actions consistent with completion of the workflow instance;
- and
- providing, by the application optimization engine and via the user interface, recommendations of suggested exceptions to the application and/or to the modified application, the recommendations based on the comparing and the second case data.
A method comprising:
- detecting, at a computer device having a user interface supported by the application, use by a user of a feature in the user interface relating to a workflow instance as part of a case guided by the application;
- generating, by the application, guidance relating to a decision or action point within the workflow instance based on case data stored within a content management system repository also storing one or more content items relating to the case, the guidance comprising a recommended action for completing the decision or action point within the workflow instance;
- providing the guidance for display within the user interface;
- allowing the user to invoke an exception that includes a deviation from the recommended action;
- saving a modified version of the application and case data for the modified application in the content management repository, the modified version comprising the exception;
- accessing the case data in the content management system repository from an application optimization engine;
- monitoring, by the application optimization engine, performance metrics of the application and the modified version of the application when used by additional users in additional workflow instances, the monitoring comprising retaining, in the content management repository, second case data for the workflow instance as well as other currently and previously executed workflow instances based on the application and the modified application;
- comparing, based on a common application model definition, a definition of the application to a definition of the modified version of the business application, wherein the definition of the application and the definition of the modified version of the business application define functionality for guiding the user through a set of actions consistent with completion of the workflow instance;
- and
- providing, by the application optimization engine and via the user interface, recommendations of suggested exceptions to the application and/or to the modified application, the recommendations based on the comparing and the second case data.
