User assignment of resource blocks in a preamble

A system, comprising:

• a memory;
• and
• at least one processor coupled to the memory and configured to:
• receive a preamble of a frame corresponding to a wireless communications protocol, wherein the preamble comprises a tone mapping field, a first user identification field, a second user identification field, a first assignment field, and a second assignment field;
• extract the first assignment field from the preamble based at least in part on a particular resource block mapping, wherein the first assignment field corresponds to an other system;
• calculate an unassigned resource block number for the other system from the first assignment field;
• extract the second user identification field and the second assignment field from the preamble based at least in part on the unassigned resource block number;
• and
• determine an assigned resource block number for the system based at least in part on the second assignment field.

A non-transitory computer-readable device having instructions stored thereon that, when executed by at least one computing device, cause the at least one computing device to perform operations comprising:

• receiving a preamble of a frame corresponding to a wireless communications protocol, wherein the preamble comprises a tone mapping field, a first user identification field, a second user identification field, a first assignment field, and a second assignment field;
• calculating a size of the first assignment field based at least in part on a particular resource block mapping;
• extracting the first assignment field from the preamble based at least in part on a size of the first assignment field and the particular resource block mapping, wherein the first assignment field corresponds to an other computing device;
• calculating an unassigned resource block number for the other computing device from the first assignment field;
• extracting the second user identification field and the second assignment field from the preamble based at least in part on the unassigned resource block number;
• determining an assigned resource block number for the at least one computing device based at least in part on the second assignment field;
• and
• assigning a resource block corresponding to the assigned resource block number to the at least one computing device, wherein the second user identification field corresponds to the at least one computing device.
