Quantum dot encapsulation techniques

A display device comprising:

• a quantum dot film comprising quantum dots, each of the quantum dots including:
• a core-shell structure having a core comprising indium phosphide (InP) and a shell comprising zinc sulfide (ZnS) or zinc selenide (ZnSe) surrounding the core, and
• an optically transparent hydrophobic barrier layer, disposed on the core-shell structure, wherein the optically transparent hydrophobic barrier layer surrounds only a single quantum dot;
• and
• a matrix material configured to house the quantum dots and be in substantial contact with the optically transparent hydrophobic barrier layer;
• disposed on an organic layer that emits a broadband radiation during operation;
• and
• an optical element, disposed on the quantum dot film, configured to block wavelengths of the broadband radiation that are greater than the primary emission peak wavelength.
