Abstract
Systems and methods for virtual affective touch are disclosed. One illustrative system described herein includes: a touch screen display; a haptic output device; and a processor configured to: display a visual representation of a receiving user on the touch screen display; receive from the touch screen display a sensor signal associated with a gesture by a sending user; transmit a signal associated with the gesture and the visual representation to a receiving device; determine a haptic effect based in part on the gesture and the visual representation of the receiving user; and transmit a haptic signal associated with the haptic effect to the haptic output device configured to output the haptic effect.
Claims20
A system comprising:
- a touch screen display;
- a haptic output device;
- and
- a processor configured to:
- display a visual representation of a receiving user on the touch screen display;
- determine a sensor signal based on a gesture by a sending user on the touch screen display;
- transmit a signal comprising data determined based on both the gesture and the visual representation of the receiving user to a receiving device;
- determine a haptic effect based in part on the gesture and the visual representation of the receiving user;
- and
- transmit a haptic signal associated with the haptic effect to the haptic output device configured to output the haptic effect.
A method comprising:
- displaying a visual representation of a receiving user on a touch screen display;
- determining a sensor signal based on a gesture by a sending user on the touch screen display;
- transmitting a signal comprising data determined based on both the gesture and the visual representation of the receiving user to a receiving device;
- determining a haptic effect based in part on the gesture and the visual representation of the receiving user;
- and
- transmitting a haptic signal associated with the haptic effect to a haptic output device configured to output the haptic effect.
A non-transitory computer readable medium comprising program code, which when executed by a processor is configured to cause the processor to:
- display a visual representation of a receiving user on a touch screen display;
- determine a sensor signal based on a gesture by a sending user on the touch screen display;
- transmit a signal comprising data determined based on both the gesture and the visual representation of the receiving user to a receiving device;
- determine a haptic effect based in part on the gesture and the visual representation of the receiving user;
- and
- transmit a haptic signal associated with the haptic effect to a haptic output device configured to output the haptic effect.
