Display apparatus and method of manufacturing the same

A display apparatus comprising:

• a first substrate comprising a display area and a peripheral area surrounding the display area;
• a color filter disposed in the display area;
• a gap maintaining pattern disposed in the peripheral area in a same layer as the color filter;
• a column spacer disposed on the color filter;
• and
• a blocking dam disposed in a same layer as the column spacer and overlapping the gap maintaining pattern;
• a second substrate facing the first substrate;
• and
• a liquid crystal layer disposed between the first substrate and the second substrate,
• wherein the blocking dam makes contact with the second substrate, and
• wherein the blocking dam comprises:
• a first blocking dam;
• and
• a second blocking dam adjacent to the first blocking dam and extending in a direction parallel to the first blocking dam.
