Abstract
Combined methods for treating a patient using time-varying magnetic field are described. The treatment methods combine various approaches for aesthetic treatment. The methods are focused on enhancing a visual appearance of the patient.
Claims30
A method for treating at least one body region of a patient, the method comprising:
- attaching an applicator including a magnetic field generating device by a belt to the patient;
- charging an energy storage device;
- discharging energy from the energy storage device to the magnetic field generating device;
- generating, by the magnetic field generating device, a time-varying magnetic field comprising a plurality of magnetic pulses with a repetition rate in a range between 1 Hz and 300 Hz;
- directing a fluid into the applicator to cool the magnetic field generating device;
- assembling the plurality of magnetic pulses into at least one train of magnetic pulses;
- applying the at least one train of magnetic pulses to muscle fibers, neuromuscular plates, or peripheral nerves innervating muscle fibers within the at least one body region of the patient such that a muscle is caused to contract;
- and
- cooling, by a cooling element at a temperature of between 10° C. and −15° C., a region of an epidermis of the patient.

A method for shaping a body of a patient, the method comprising:
- placing an applicator housing a magnetic field generating device proximate to at least one body region of the patient;
- attaching the applicator to the patient's skin or clothing via a belt;
- charging an energy storage device;
- switching a switching device to discharge energy from the energy storage device to the magnetic field generating device such that a time-varying magnetic field is generated for a first time period;
- applying the time-varying magnetic field to muscle fibers, neuromuscular plates, or peripheral nerves innervating muscle fibers within the at least one body region of the patient such that a muscle is caused to contract;
- and
- cooling adipose cells within the at least one body region of the patient with a cooling element at a temperature of between 10° C. and −15° C.;
- wherein the step of switching the switching device is repeated at a switching repetition rate to generate the time-varying magnetic field with a plurality of magnetic impulses comprising a repetition rate in a range between 1 Hz and 300 Hz, and the repetition rate of the plurality of magnetic impulses equals the switching repetition rate of the switching device;
- wherein the at least one body region is selected from a group consisting of:
- a) an abdomen of the patient,
- b) a buttock of the patient, and
- c) a thigh of the patient.

A method for shaping a body of a patient, the method comprising:
- placing a first applicator and a second applicator in contact with the patient's skin or clothing;
- charging a first energy storage device and a second energy storage device;
- discharging the first energy storage device to a first magnetic field generating device disposed in the first applicator, and discharging the second energy storage device to a second magnetic field generating device disposed in the second applicator;
- generating, by the first magnetic field generating device, a first time-varying magnetic field, and simultaneously generating, by the second magnetic field generating device, a second time-varying magnetic field;
- applying each of the first and second time-varying magnetic fields in trains of magnetic pulses to muscle fibers, neuromuscular plates, or peripheral nerves innervating muscle fibers within at least one body region of the patient such that muscles are caused to contract;
- and
- cooling, by a cooling element at a temperature of between −20° C. and 20° C., adipose cells of the patient.

A method for shaping a body of a patient, the method comprising:
- charging at least one energy storage device;
- switching at least one switching device such that at least one current pulse is discharged from the at least one energy storage device to a first magnetic field generating device to generate a first time-varying magnetic field and to a second magnetic field generating device to generate a second time-varying magnetic field, the first and second time varying magnetic fields each comprising a plurality of magnetic pulses with a repetition rate in a range between 1 Hz and 300 Hz;
- applying the first and second time-varying magnetic fields simultaneously to muscle fibers, neuromuscular plates, or peripheral nerves innervating muscle fibers within at least one body region of the patient such that at least one muscle is caused to contract;
- and
- cooling, by a cooling element at a temperature of between 10° C. and −15° C., a skin of the patient.
