Abstract
Successive layers of a wall of a part are deposited to form a first access channel extending from an exterior of the part to an interior of the part, as well as to form a distribution channel connecting an interior volume of the honeycomb infill to the first access channel. A binder matrix retaining sinterable powder is debound by flowing a debinding fluid through the first access channel and the distribution channel within the interior volume of the honeycomb infill.
Claims21
A method of depositing material for additive manufacturing, comprising:
- supplying a composite material including a first binder matrix and a sinterable powder;
- depositing the composite material in successive layers of a wall of a part to form a first access channel penetrating from an exterior of the part, through the wall, to an interior of the part;
- depositing the composite material in successive layers of infill in the interior of the part to form at least one distribution channel connecting a substantially enclosed volume of the infill to the first access channel;
- flowing, during primary debinding, a debinding fluid through the first access channel and the at least one distribution channel and within the substantially enclosed volume of the infill to debind the first binder matrix;
- and
- after the primary debinding, drying out the debinding fluid from the part via heat transfer provided by the first access channel and the at least one distribution channel.
A method of depositing material for additive manufacturing, comprising:
- supplying a composite material including a first binder matrix and a sinterable powder;
- depositing the composite material in successive layers of a wall of a part to form a first access channel penetrating from an exterior of the part, through the wall, to an interior of the part;
- depositing the composite material in successive layers of honeycomb infill in the interior of the part to form at least one distribution channel connecting a substantially enclosed volume of the honeycomb infill to the first access channel;
- and
- debinding the first binder matrix by flowing a debinding fluid through the first access channel and the at least one distribution channel and within the substantially enclosed volume of the honeycomb infill.
A method of depositing material for additive manufacturing, comprising:
- supplying a composite material including a first binder matrix and a sinterable powder;
- supplying a material including a second binder matrix;
- depositing the composite material in successive layers of a wall of a part to form a first access channel penetrating from an exterior of the part, through the wall, to an interior of the part;
- depositing the composite material in successive layers of infill in the interior of the part to form at least one distribution channel connecting a substantially enclosed volume of the infill to the first access channel;
- applying the material to the part;
- flowing, during primary debinding, a debinding fluid through the first access channel and the at least one distribution channel and within the substantially enclosed volume of the infill to debind the first binder matrix;
- heating, during secondary debinding, the part to pyrolyse the second binder matrix into a gas;
- and
- removing the gas from the part via the first access channel and the at least one distribution channel.
A method of depositing material for additive manufacturing, comprising:
- supplying a composite material including a binder matrix and a sinterable powder;
- depositing the composite material in successive layers of a wall of a part to form an access channel penetrating from an exterior of the part, through the wall, to an interior of the part;
- depositing the composite material in successive layers of infill in the interior of the part to form a distribution channel connecting a substantially enclosed volume of the infill to the access channel;
- providing heat transfer between the substantially enclosed volume of the infill and outside of the part via the access channel and the distribution channel;
- and
- removing gas from the part via the access channel and the distribution channel.
