Abstract
A subsoil tool for ameliorating soil compaction having a shank attached to a toolbar of a tractor, wings on forward wing links pivotally engaged to the shank, and following wings on a wing rod pivotally engaged with the forward wing link. The forward wing links are positioned near the bottom of the shank in front of the rear of the shank. The wing rod is positioned behind the shank. A drive box having a hydraulic cylinder is engaged to the toolbar and pivotally engaged with the wing rod. In use, a portion of the subsoil tool may be inserted below a surface of the soil, the height of the subsoil tool may be adjusted, the subsoil tool may be rotated, and the hydraulic cylinder may be cycled to move the forward wings and following wings.
Claims41
A subsoil tool for attachment to a toolbar of a tractor comprising:
- a) a shank engaged with said toolbar;
- b) at least one forward wing link, said at least one forward wing link comprising a forward wing and pivotally engaged with said shank;
- c) a wing rod comprising at least one following wing, said wing rod pivotally engaged with said at least one forward wing link;
- d) a power link pivotally engaged with said wing rod;
- and
- e) a drive box engaged with said toolbar and comprising a hydraulic cylinder pivotally engaged with said power link.
A system for soil amelioration, said system comprising a tractor having a toolbar and at least one toolbar hydraulic cylinder for adjusting a position of said toolbar relative to said tractor, said system further comprising at least one subsoil tool engaged with said toolbar, said at least one subsoil tool comprising:
- a) a shank engaged with said toolbar;
- b) a forward wing link pivotally engaged with said shank at a lower front portion thereof and comprising a forward wing;
- c) a wing rod pivotally engaged with said forward wing link and comprising a following wing;
- and
- d) a drive box hydraulic cylinder engaged to said toolbar having a cylinder rod pivotally engaged with said wing rod.
A method for ameliorating compaction of soil, said method comprising the steps of:
- a) inserting a portion of a subsoil tool engaged with a tractor below a surface of said soil, said subsoil tool comprising a (i) shank, (ii) a forward wing link pivotally engaged with said shank and comprising a forward wing, (iii) a wing rod pivotally engaged with said forward wing link and comprising a following wing, and (iv) a drive box hydraulic cylinder having a cylinder rod engaged with said wing rod;
- b) adjusting a height of said subsoil tool relative to said soil surface;
- c) adjusting a rotation of said subsoil tool relative to said soil surface;
- d) moving said tractor along said soil surface;
- and
- e) cycling hydraulic fluid at an oscillating frequency through said drive box hydraulic cylinder to move said forward wing and said following wing.
A subsoil tool for attachment to a toolbar of a tractor comprising:
- a) a shank engaged with said toolbar, said shank comprising a foot having a pointed tooth and a plurality of adjustment holes for attachment to said toolbar;
- b) a first forward wing link and a second forward wing link, said first forward wing link and said second forward wing link comprising a forward wing and pivotally engaged at a distal end to a lower front portion of said shank, wherein said first forward wing link and said second forward wing link are on opposite sides of said shank and symmetrical along an axis defined by said shank, wherein said forward wing of said first forward wing link and said forward wing of said second forward wing link are symmetrical along an axis defined by said shank;
- c) a wing rod comprising four following wings and at least two wing rod pivots, said wing rod pivotally engaged with said first forward wing link and said second forward wing link, wherein a first and a second of said following wings are engaged on opposite sides of said wing rod and are symmetrical along an axis defined by said wing rod, wherein a third and a fourth of said following wings are engaged on opposite sides of said wing rod and are symmetrical along an axis defined by said wing rod, said wing rod further comprising at least two adjustment holes for engaging said following wings to said wing rod;
- d) a power link pivotally engaged with said wing rod through one of said at least two wing rod pivots;
- e) a drive box engaged with said toolbar and comprising a drive box hydraulic cylinder, said drive box hydraulic cylinder comprising a cylinder rod pivotally engaged with said power link;
- f) at least one shield for protecting at least one bolt from shearing stresses;
- g) a front wear plate engaged with said shank at a front portion thereof, said front wear plate comprising a protrusion along a front edge thereof having a shape of a blade;
- and
- h) at least one armored plate engaged with a side of said shank.
