Abstract
A cooking appliance includes a housing, and a cooking element disposed in the housing and configured to generate energy for cooking food, and a controller coupled to the cooking element and configured to communicate a control signal to selectively actuate a residential heating, ventilation and/or air conditioning (HVAC) system and/or non-cooking device in connection with cooking food with the cooking element.
Claims29
A cooking appliance, comprising:
- a housing;
- a cooking element disposed in the housing and configured to generate energy for cooking food;
- and
- a controller disposed in the housing, coupled to the cooking element and configured to communicate a first control signal to selectively actuate a residential heating, ventilation and/or air conditioning (HVAC) system in connection with cooking food with the cooking element, wherein the controller is configured to communicate the first control signal to activate the residential HVAC system at a predetermined time prior to activation of the cooking element, and wherein the controller is further configured to detect an actuation state of the cooking element and communicate a second control signal to selectively actuate the residential HVAC system at least in part in response to the detected actuation state of the cooking element.
A method of controlling a residential heating, ventilation and/or air conditioning (HVAC) system using a cooking appliance of the type including a housing, a cooking element disposed in the housing and configured to generate energy for cooking food, and a controller disposed in the housing and coupled to the cooking element, the method comprising:
- activating the cooking element to generate energy for cooking food;
- with the controller, communicating a first control signal to selectively actuate a residential HVAC system in connection with cooking food with the cooking element, wherein communicating the first control signal includes activating the residential HVAC system at a predetermined time prior to activation of the cooking element;
- detecting an actuation state of the cooking element;
- and
- communicating a second control signal to selectively actuate the residential HVAC system at least in part in response to the detected actuation state of the cooking element.
A method of controlling a non-cooking device using a cooking appliance of the type including a housing, a cooking element disposed in the housing and configured to generate energy for cooking food, and a controller disposed in the housing and coupled to the cooking element, the method comprising:
- activating the cooking element to generate energy for cooking food;
- with the controller, communicating a first control signal at a predetermined time prior to activation of the cooking element to selectively control an operation of the non-cooking device in connection with cooking food with the cooking element;
- detecting an actuation state of the cooking element;
- and
- communicating a second control signal to selectively control the operation of the non-cooking device at least in part in response to the detected actuation state of the cooking element.
