## Abstract

A taping method that follows a specific set of rules based on anatomical and physiological patterns in humans. This taping method causes a change in skeletal muscle tone in the human body when tape is directly applied to the skin of the human body over the targeted muscles. This taping method will inhibit the muscle tone in the affected motor units that are underneath the tape applied in a specific inhibition method. This taping method will elicit the muscle tone in the affected motor units that are surrounded by the tape applied in a specific elicitation method. There are three different types of elicitation method patterns based on muscle size or groups of muscles, secondarily to the length tension relationship required for a muscle contraction. There is only one type of inhibition method.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A taping method to control tone in a skeletal muscle, the skeletal muscle including a lateral surface and a medial surface, a proximal myotendinous junction and a distal myotendinous junction, Golgi tendon organs, Ruffini's endings, interstitial type III and IV muscle receptors, and muscle spindle fibers, without penetrating skin, comprising the step of:
applying medical adhesive tape to the skin over the muscle belly and avoiding the myotendinous junction to activate proprioceptors and mechanoreceptor structures in the muscle;
wherein the tape is initially applied to the skin and in parallel to activated muscle spindle fibers, each having a nuclear bag and nuclear chain fibers, to immobilize the nuclear bag and nuclear chain fibers to inhibit transmission of sensory information to the central nervous system and inhibit firing of a motor neuron to stop the extrafusal muscle fibers from contracting, thereby inhibiting muscle tone and muscle contraction.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

Method according to claim 1; further comprising:
applying tape in a predetermined pattern to the area of a muscle or muscle group; and
applying additional layers of tape in the predetermined pattern.
