Staggered back-to-back launch topology with diagonal waveguides for field confined near field communication system

A method for transmitting a signal between modules in a system, the method comprising:

• generating, by a radio frequency (RF) transmitter of a module, an RF electromagnetic field;
• emanating, by a near field communication (NFC) coupler of the module, the RF electromagnetic field;
• propagating the RF electromagnetic field, by a skewed field confiner, to a port region in a housing of the module having an opening whose cross section is:
• parallel to the NFC coupler;
• and
• laterally skewed from the NFC coupler.

A module comprising:

• a substrate;
• a first near field communication (NFC) coupler on a first surface of the substrate;
• a first field confiner coupled to the first NFC coupler;
• a second NFC coupler on a second surface of the substrate, the first NFC coupler laterally offset from the second NFC coupler;
• and
• a second field confiner coupled to the second NFC coupler.
