Claims30
An air filter cartridge comprising:
- (a) a filter media pack having a first flow face and a second, opposite, flow face;
- (i) the filter media pack including filter media defining a plurality of parallel ridges extending in a direction parallel to a central flow axis between the first flow face and the second flow face;
- (ii) the filter media pack being closed to passage of air therethrough, from the first flow face to the second flow face, without filtering passage through the filter media;
- (iii) the filter media pack having a rectangular cross-sectional shape in a direction perpendicular to the central flow axis;
- and
- (iv) the filter media pack comprising four sides, including a first pair of first and second opposite sides and a second pair of first and second opposite sides, extending between the first flow face and the second flow face;
- (b) first and second side pieces positioned, respectively, on the first pair of first and second opposite sides of the filter media pack;
- and
- (c) a housing seal arrangement, including a seal member, extending around the four sides of the filter media pack;
- (i) the seal member including a seal surface extending around the four sides of the filter media pack and generally facing toward one of the first flow face and the second flow face, and positioned for sealing engagement with a housing component in use;
- (ii) the seal surface being positioned spaced from the second flow face in a direction toward the first flow face;
- (iii) the seal surface extending across the first side piece and the second side piece along a path at an angle X of at least 2 degrees to a plane perpendicular to the central flow axis;
- and
- (iii) the seal surface being spaced from the filter media by a receiving trough extending at least partially around the filter media pack.

An air filter cartridge comprising:
- (a) a filter media pack having a first flow face and a second, opposite, flow face;
- (i) the filter media pack including filter media defining a plurality of flutes extending in a direction parallel to a central flow axis between the first flow face and the second flow face;
- (ii) at least a portion of the flutes do not extend a complete distance between the first flow face and the second flow face;
- (iii) the filter media pack being closed to passage of air therethrough, from the first flow face to the second flow face, without filtering passage through the filter media;
- (iv) the filter media pack having a rectangular cross-sectional shape in a direction perpendicular to the central flow axis;
- and
- (v) the filter media pack comprising four sides, including a first pair of first and second opposite sides and a second pair of first and second opposite sides, extending between the first flow face and the second flow face;
- (b) first and second side pieces positioned, respectively, on the first pair of first and second opposite sides of the filter media pack;
- (c) first and second protective pieces positioned, respectively, on the second pair of first and second opposite sides of the media packs;
- and
- (d) a housing seal arrangement, including a seal member, extending around the four sides of the filter media pack;
- (i) the seal member including a seal surface extending around the four sides of the filter media pack and generally facing toward one of the first flow face and the second flow face and positioned for sealing engagement with a housing component in use;
- (ii) the seal surface being positioned spaced from the second flow face in a direction toward the first flow face;
- (iii) the seal surface extending across the first side piece and the second side piece along a path at an angle X at least 2 degrees to a plane defined by the first flow face of the filter media pack;
- (iv) the seal surface extending across the second pair of first and second opposite sides of the filter media pack along a path parallel to the plane defined by the first flow face of the filter media pack;
- and
- (v) the seal surface being spaced from the filter media by a receiving trough extending at least partially around the filter media pack.
