Abstract
A novel sorghum variety designated XSW256 and seed, plants, plant parts and plant cells thereof are produced from a cross of inbred sorghum varieties. Methods for producing a sorghum plant comprise crossing hybrid sorghum variety XSW256 with another sorghum plant. Sorghum variety XSW256, the seed, the plant produced from the seed, and variants, mutants, and minor modifications of sorghum variety XSW256 are provided. Methods for producing a sorghum plant containing in its genetic material one or more traits introgressed into sorghum variety XSW256 include one or both of backcross conversion and transformation of one or both inbred parents. The sorghum seed, plants and plant parts produced thereby are described.
Claims20
An F1 hybrid sorghum variety XSW256 seed produced by crossing a first plant of variety PH2012GW with a second plant of variety PHNOOQFKE, representative seed of the varieties PH2012GW and PHNOOQFKE having been deposited under ATCC Accession Numbers PTA-125073 and PTA-122098 respectively.
A seed of F1 hybrid sorghum variety XSW256 further comprising a locus conversion, wherein the seed is produced by crossing a first plant of variety PH2012GW with a second plant of variety PHNOOQFKE;
- wherein representative seed of the varieties PH2012GW and PHNOOQFKE have been deposited under ATCC Accession Numbers PTA-125073 and PTA-122098, respectively;
- and wherein at least one of the varieties PH2012GW and PHNOOQFKE further comprises the locus conversion which is inherited by the seed, and wherein the seed produces a plant which otherwise has essentially all of the morphological and physiological characteristics as sorghum variety XSW256 when grown under the same environmental conditions.
A seed of hybrid sorghum variety XSW256 further comprising a first single locus conversion, produced by crossing a first plant of variety PH2012GW with a second plant of variety PHNOOQFKE, wherein representative seed of said varieties PH2012GW and PHNOOQFKE have been deposited under ATCC Accession numbers PTA-125073 and PTA-122098, respectively, and wherein one or both of the first plant and second plant further comprises the single locus conversion, and wherein a plant grown from said seed comprises a trait conferred by said first single locus conversion and otherwise comprises essentially all of the morphological and physiological characteristics as sorghum variety XSW256 when grown under the same environmental conditions.
