Abstract
The potential for substance abuse involving residual amounts of abusable substances remaining in used skin-worn patches is reduced by the provision of a system and method for combining the abusable substance with a separate anti-abuse substance agent as part of a removal or disposal procedure.

A method for reducing potential for abuse of a substance, the method comprising:
- (a) introducing the substance into a container comprising an anti-abuse layer attached to a side of the container;
- and
- (b) sealing the container.
A method for reducing potential for abuse of a substance, the method comprising:
- (a) introducing the substance into an opening of a pouch comprising:
- (i) an anti-abuse layer comprising an absorbent material attached to a side of the pouch;
- and
- (ii) a closure system at an opening of the pouch;
- and
- (b) sealing the pouch by closing the closure system.

A method for reducing potential or abuse of a fentanyl composition, the method comprising:
- (a) introducing the fentanyl composition into an opening of a pouch comprising:
- (i) an anti-abuse layer comprising activated carbon attached to a side of the pouch;
- and
- (ii) a closure system comprising an adhesive at an opening of the pouch;
- and
- (b) sealing the pouch by closing the closure system.
