Abstract
A method for bonding components is provided. The method includes preparing a surface of a metal component, applying a film adhesive to the prepared surface, forming a thermoplastic component using injection molding such that the film adhesive is positioned between the metal component and the thermoplastic component, and curing the film adhesive.
Claims20
A part comprising:
- an injection molding tool for a thermoplastic component, said injection molding tool defining a cavity for forming the thermoplastic component;
- a metal component having an interface surface, said metal component at least partially disposed in said injection molding tool;
- and
- a film adhesive positioned and partially cured on said interface surface of said metal component, said film adhesive defining at least one boundary of the cavity of said injection molding tool.

A part comprising:
- a metal component comprising a titanium fastener;
- a thermoplastic component;
- and
- a film adhesive positioned between said metal and thermoplastic components, said film adhesive bonding said metal component to said thermoplastic component, wherein said part is fabricated by applying said film adhesive to a surface of said metal component, forming said thermoplastic component using injection molding, and curing said film adhesive after the injection molding.
