Mechanical seal for gearmotor assembly having threaded bearing retainer

A gearmotor assembly comprising:

• a housing defining a gear chamber configured to contain a lubricant;
• a shaft rotatable about an axis;
• a bearing rotatably supporting said shaft,
• said bearing being disposed between said housing and said shaft;
• a retaining member disposed downstream of said bearing and at least in part restricting axial shifting of said bearing,
• said retaining member comprising a plurality of retaining member threads,
• said housing comprising a plurality of housing threads threadably engaging said retaining member threads,
• said retaining member and said housing cooperatively at least in part defining an interface comprising:
• a threaded portion cooperatively defined by said retaining member threads and said housing threads, and
• an additional portion fluidly interconnected to said threaded portion;
• and
• a seal disposed along the interface to prevent the lubricant from escaping the gear chamber past the interface,
• said housing defining a bearing well that comprises an axially extending inner circumferential surface downstream from said housing threads and a tapered circumferential surface extending obliquely outward from said inner circumferential surface,
• said tapered surface being disposed downstream from said inner circumferential surface, and
• said tapered surface being sized to contact said seal and thereby facilitate positioning of said seal along said inner circumferential surface,
• said retaining member circumscribing said shaft.
