Best next access point list

A method comprising:

• determining, for each one of a plurality of subsequent access points, a respective quantity of client devices that roam into predetermined sections and from the predetermined sections of a current access point to each of the respective plurality of subsequent access points;
• determining, for each one of the plurality of subsequent access points based on the determined quantity of client devices that roam into the predetermined sections and from the predetermined sections of the current access point to each of the plurality of subsequent access points, a corresponding respective weight indicating a likelihood of its respective corresponding one of the plurality of subsequent access points being roamed to, wherein determining the respective weight comprises:
• parsing the plurality of subsequent access points into one of a plurality of quadrants based on an angle of approach from the current access point, and
• determining the respective weight based on a quantity of client devices traversed from the current access point in each of the plurality of quadrants;
• creating a table indicating the desirability of at least a portion of the plurality of subsequent access points to be roamed to based upon the corresponding respective weight of the plurality of subsequent access points indicated in the table;
• and
• providing the current access point with the table.

An apparatus comprising:

• a memory storage;
• and
• a processing unit coupled to the memory storage, wherein the processing unit is operative to:
• determine, for each one of a plurality of subsequent access points, a respective quantity of client devices that roam through a current access point on given vectors into predetermined sections of the current access point and from the predetermined sections of the current access point to each of the respective plurality of subsequent access points;
• determine, for each one of the plurality of subsequent access points based on the determined quantity of client devices that roam through the current access point on the given vectors into the predetermined sections of the current access point and from the predetermined sections of the current access point to each of the plurality of subsequent access points, a corresponding respective weight indicating a likelihood of its respective corresponding one of the plurality of subsequent access points being roamed to, wherein the processing unit being operative to determine he respective weight comprises the processing unit being operative to:
• parse the plurality of subsequent access points into one of a plurality of quadrants based on an angle of approach from the current access point, and
• determine the respective weight based on a quantity of client devices traversed from the current access point in each of the plurality of quadrants;
• create a table indicating the desirability of at least a portion of the plurality of subsequent access points to be roamed to based upon the corresponding respective weight of the plurality of subsequent access points indicated in the table;
• and
• provide the current access point with the table.
