Abstract
A device for encoding video data may be configured to encode video data according to a set of sample adaptive offset (SAO) types; perform a plurality of coding passes to test a subset of the SAO types for a first block of video data, wherein the subset is smaller than the set; select from the subset of SAO types an SAO type for the first block of video data; and generate for inclusion in an encoded bitstream, information for identifying the selected SAO type for the first block.
Claims18
A method of encoding video data, the method comprising:
- encoding video data according to a plurality of sample adaptive offset (SAO) types;
- performing a plurality of coding passes to test the plurality of SAO types for a subset of samples for a first block of video data, wherein the subset of samples comprises fewer than all samples in the block;
- selecting from the plurality of SAO types an SAO type for the first block of video data;
- generating for inclusion in an encoded bitstream, information for identifying the selected SAO type for the first block;
- determining offset values for the first block of video data;
- adding the offset values to a second block of video data using the SAO type selected for the first block of video data;
- comparing the second block of video data with the added offset values to a corresponding original block;
- and
- in response to a difference between the second block of video data and the corresponding original block of video data being less than a threshold amount of difference, encoding the second block of video data using the selected SAO type and the offset values determined for the first block and terminating an SAO information derivation process.
A device for encoding video data, the device comprising:
- a memory configured to store video data;
- and
- one or more processors configured to:
- encode video data according to a plurality of sample adaptive offset (SAO) types;
- perform a plurality of coding passes to test the plurality of SAO types for a subset of samples for a first block of video data, wherein the subset of samples comprises fewer than all samples in the block;
- select from the plurality of SAO types an SAO type for the first block of video data;
- generate for inclusion in an encoded bitstream, information for identifying the selected SAO type for the first block;
- determine offset values for the first block of video data;
- add the offset values to a second block of video data using the SAO type selected for the first block of video data;
- compare the second block of video data with the added offset values to a corresponding original block;
- and
- in response to a difference between the second block of video data and the corresponding original block of video data being less than a threshold amount of difference, encode the second block of video data using the selected SAO type and the offset values determined for the first block and terminating an SAO information derivation process.
