Image processing device and method

An image processing method, comprising:

• determining an extended profile based on at least one of general_max_10bit_constraint_flag or general_max_12bit_constraint_flag, wherein
• the extended profile is an extension of a profile that is specified in a coding standard, and
• the extended profile supports a bit depth of up to 16 bits as opposed to the coding standard;
• calculating a cost function value for each of a plurality of prediction modes based on the extended profile;
• determining an optimum prediction mode of the plurality of prediction modes based on the cost function value;
• and
• encoding an image, based on the optimum prediction mode, to generate an encoded stream, wherein the image is encoded according to a recursive hierarchical structure of each coding block of a plurality of coding blocks.

An image processing device, comprising:

• circuitry configured to:
• determine an extended profile based on at least one of general_max_10bit_constraint_flag or general_max_12bit_constraint_flag, wherein
• the extended profile is an extension of a profile that is specified in a coding standard, and
• the extended profile supports a bit depth of up to 16 bits as opposed to the coding standard;
• calculate a cost function value for each of a plurality of prediction modes based on the extended profile;
• determine an optimum prediction mode of the plurality of prediction modes based on the cost function value;
• and
• decode an encoded stream based on the extended profile, wherein
• the encoded stream is encoded based on a recursive hierarchical structure of each coding block of a plurality of coding blocks, and
• the encoded stream is encoded based on the optimum prediction mode.

An image processing method, comprising:

• determining an extended profile based on at least one of general_max_10bit_constraint_flag or general_max_12bit_constraint_flag, wherein
• the extended profile is an extension of a profile that is specified in a coding standard, and
• the extended profile supports a bit depth of up to 16 bits as opposed to the coding standard;
• calculating a cost function value for each of a plurality of prediction modes based on the extended profile;
• determining an optimum prediction mode of the plurality of prediction modes based on the cost function value;
• and
• decoding an encoded stream based on the extended profile, wherein
• the encoded stream is encoded based on a recursive hierarchical structure of each coding block of a plurality of coding blocks, and
• the encoded stream is encoded based on the optimum prediction mode.
