Abstract
There is provided mechanisms for adaptive user-specific beam forming. A method is performed by a network node. The method comprises acquiring uplink user-specific spatial channel characteristics for a wireless device. The method comprises acquiring a set of downlink port mappings for the wireless device. The method comprises adaptively configuring user-specific ports for the wireless device by using the uplink user-specific spatial channel statistics to determine a downlink user-specific port mapping from the set of downlink port mappings, thereby providing user-specific beam forming for the wireless device.

A method for adaptive user-specific beam forming, the method being performed by a network node, the method comprising:
- the network node acquiring uplink user-specific spatial channel characteristics for a wireless device;
- the network node acquiring a set of downlink port mappings for the wireless device;
- and
- the network node adaptively configuring user-specific ports for the wireless device, wherein
- the uplink user-specific spatial channel characteristics for wireless device k are represented by a covariance matrix, Rk, and
- the network node adaptively configuring user-specific ports comprises:
- the network node utilizing the uplink-user specific spatial channel characteristics to determine:
- (i) a codebook entry specifying beam forming weights fh for horizontal user-specific beam forming, and (ii) a codebook entry specifying beam forming weights fv for vertical user-specific beam forming, wherein fh and fv are determined such that signal strengths expressed as fhHRkhfh and fvHRkvfv are maximized, respectively, and wherein fhH is a conjugate transpose of fh and fvH is a conjugate transpose of fv.
A network node for adaptive user-specific beam forming, the network node comprising a processing unit, the processing unit being configured to cause the network node to:
- acquire uplink user-specific spatial channel characteristics for a wireless device;
- acquire a set of downlink port mappings for the wireless device;
- and
- adaptively configure user-specific ports for the wireless device, wherein
- the uplink user-specific spatial channel characteristics for wireless device k are represented by a covariance matrix, Rk, and
- the adaptively configured user-specific ports comprises:
- the uplink-user specific spatial channel characteristics to determine:
- (i) a codebook entry specifying beam forming weights fh for horizontal user-specific beam forming, and (ii) a codebook entry specifying beam forming weights fv for vertical user-specific beam forming, wherein fh and fv are determined such that signal strengths expressed as fhHRkhfh and fvHRkvfv are maximized, respectively, and wherein fhH is a conjugate transpose of fh and fvH is a conjugate transpose of fv.
A computer program stored on a non-transitory computer readable medium for adaptive user-specific beam forming, the computer program comprising computer code which, when run on a processing unit of a network node, causes the network node to:
- acquire uplink user-specific spatial channel characteristics for a wireless device;
- acquire a set of downlink port mappings for the wireless device;
- and
- adaptively configure user-specific ports for the wireless device, wherein
