Method to improve power amplifier output return loss and back-off performance with RC feedback network

A method of improving power amplifier performance in a transmit channel of a phased array antenna, the method comprising:

• arranging a plurality of antenna elements of a phased array antenna panel in one or more groups;
• and
• mounting one or more beam former integrated circuits on the phased array antenna panel, wherein each beam former integrated circuit is coupled to a respective group of said antenna elements, each beam former integrated circuit comprises a plurality of transceiver channels, each transceiver channel is coupled to a respective antenna element in said respective group of said antenna elements and comprises a power amplifier circuit configured, when operating in a transmit mode, to drive respective antenna element in said respective group of said antenna elements, each power amplifier circuit comprises a feedback network coupled between an output of said power amplifier circuit and an input of said power amplifier circuit, said feedback network comprises a resistor and a capacitor connected in series, and said power amplifier circuit with said feedback network maintains a power matching condition with load variation associated with said plurality of antenna elements of said phased array antenna panel.
