Negative electrode for rechargeable lithium battery and rechargeable lithium battery including the same

A negative electrode for a rechargeable lithium battery, the negative electrode comprising:

• a current collector;
• a negative active material layer on the current collector;
• and
• a coating layer comprising an inorganic layer directly contacting the negative active material layer and including an inorganic material and an organic layer directly contacting the inorganic layer and including an organic material,
• wherein the organic material comprises a polymer particle having a melting point in a range from 85 to 130° C.,
• wherein the organic material comprises a polymer particle having a particle size in a range from 0.1 to 5 μm,
• wherein the inorganic material comprises an inorganic particle having a particle size in a range from 0.1 to 5 μm,
• wherein the organic material is included in the negative electrode in an amount in a range from 0.5 to 10 wt % based on the total amount of the negative active material layer and the coating layer,
• wherein the organic material comprises a combination of an acryl-based rubber and the polymer particle comprising at least one selected from the group consisting of a polyolefin, a polyolefin derivative, a polyolefin wax, or a combination thereof,
• wherein the inorganic material is included in the negative electrode in an amount in a range from 1 to 20 wt % based on the total amount of the negative active material layer and the coating layer, and
• wherein the organic layer does not include any inorganic material.
