Abstract
There are disclosed topical silver(II) antibiotic formulations. Other embodiments are also disclosed.
Claims20
A method of producing a silver(II) carboxylate from a silver(II) oxide, the method comprising:
- (a) mixing a carboxylic acid and the silver(II) oxide to produce a reaction mixture;
- and
- (b) heating the reaction mixture to produce a first formulation containing an aliphatic silver carboxylate, the silver of the aliphatic silver carboxylate having a nominal valence of 2.
A method of producing, from a silver(II) oxide, an anti-microbial formulation containing silver(II) carboxylate, the method comprising:
- (a) mixing a carboxylic acid and the silver(II) oxide to produce a reaction mixture;
- (b) heating the reaction mixture to produce an aliphatic silver carboxylate, the silver of the aliphatic silver carboxylate having a nominal valence of 2;
- and
- (c) providing said aliphatic silver carboxylate in a formulation having a form of a cream, an emulsion, or an ointment.
