## Abstract

Disclosed are media attachment systems to enable a user to embed a first media item with a link to a second media item, and distribute the first media item in a message to one or more recipient client devices. For example, the first media item may include a picture or video captured by a user at a client device. The user may generate a message that includes the first media item. In response, a media attachment system may cause display of an interface at the client device that includes an option to attach an address to a second media item to the message. For example, the second media item may include a web page, social media post, picture, or video identified by an address such as a Uniform Resource Locator (URL).

## Claims

### Claim 1

A method comprising:
generating a data object that includes a first media item at a client device;
presenting an interface that includes an option to assign a second media item to the data object, in response to the generating the data object at the client device;
receiving a selection of the second media item through the interface;
assigning an address to the second media item to the data object, the address to the second media item identifying a location to access the second media item;
causing display of a presentation of the first media item within the interface, the presentation including a graphical icon representative of the second media item;
receiving an input that selects the graphical icon representative of the second media item;
retrieving the second media item from the location identified by the address in response to the receiving the input that selects the graphical icon representative of the second media item; and
causing display of the second media item at a position within the presentation of the first media item within the interface in response to the retrieving the second media item.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein the first media item includes a picture or a video.

### Claim 3 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein the second media item includes a web page or a social media post.

### Claim 4 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein the generating the data object that includes the first media item at the client device includes capturing an image at the client device.

### Claim 5 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein the second media item includes a web page, and the receiving the selection of the second media item through the interface includes:
receiving a Uniform Resource Locator (URL) that directs to the web page.

### Claim 6 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein the client device is a first client device, and the method further comprises:
attaching the data object to a message to a second client device from the first client device; and
wherein the causing display of the presentation of the first media item includes causing display of the presentation of the first media item at the second client device.

### Claim 7 (depends on 6)

The method of claim 6, wherein the message is an ephemeral message.

### Claim 8 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein the address to the second media item includes a URL, and the causing display of the second media item within the presentation of the first media item includes:
accessing the URL in response to the receiving the selection of the graphical icon;
retrieving the second media item from the URL;
generating a representation of the second media item; and
causing display of the representation of the second media item within the presentation of the first media item.

### Claim 9 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein the address to the second media item includes a URL, and the causing display of the second media item within the presentation of the first media item includes:
embedding a browser into the presentation of the first media item; and
navigating to the second media item within the browser based on the URL.

### Claim 10 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein the second media item is a web page, the interface is a search window, and the receiving the selection of the second media item includes:
receiving a search request through the search window, the search request including at least a keyword;
causing display of a set of search results within the search window, the set of search results including the web page; and
receiving a selection of the web page from among the set of search results.

### Claim 11 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein the method further comprises:
receiving a selection of the graphical icon; and
causing display of the second media item within the presentation of the first media item.

### Claim 12

A system comprising:
a memory; and
at least one hardware processor couple to the memory and comprising instructions that cause the system to perform operations comprising:
generating a data object that includes a first media item at a client device;
presenting an interface that includes an option to assign a second media item to the data object, in response to the generating the data object at the client device;
receiving a selection of the second media item through the interface;
assigning an address to the second media item to the data object, the address to the second media item identifying a location to access the second media item;
causing display of a presentation of the first media item within the interface, the presentation including a graphical icon representative of the second media item;
receiving an input that selects the graphical icon representative of the second media item;
retrieving the second media item from the location identified by the address in response to the receiving the input that selects the graphical icon representative of the second media item; and
causing display of the second media item at a position within the presentation of the first media item within the interface in response to the retrieving the second media item.

### Claim 13 (depends on 12)

The system of claim 12, wherein the first media item includes a picture or a video.

### Claim 14 (depends on 12)

The system of claim 12, wherein the second media item includes a web page or a social media post.

### Claim 15 (depends on 12)

The system of claim 12, wherein the instructions for generating the data object that includes the first media item at the client device includes:
capturing an image at the client device.

### Claim 16 (depends on 12)

The system of claim 12, wherein the second media item includes a web page, and the instructions for receiving the selection of the second media item through the interface includes:
receiving a Uniform Resource Locator (URL) that directs to the web page.

### Claim 17 (depends on 12)

The system of claim 12, wherein the client device is a first client device, and the instructions cause the system to perform operations further comprising:
attaching the data object to a message to a second client device from the first client device; and
wherein the causing display of the presentation of the first media item includes causing display of the presentation of the first media item at the second client device.

### Claim 18 (depends on 12)

The system of claim 12, wherein the message is an ephemeral message.

### Claim 19

A non-transitory machine-readable storage medium comprising instructions that, when executed by one or more processors of a machine, cause the machine to perform operations including:
generating a data object that includes a first media item at a client device;
presenting an interface that includes an option to assign a second media item to the data object, in response to the generating the data object at the client device;
