Abstract
Aspects of the subject disclosure may include, for example, a solid dielectric antenna having a non-uniform spatial distribution of relative permittivity.
Claims20
A communication device, comprising:
- a dielectric antenna having a non-uniform spatial distribution of relative permittivity, wherein, when a longitudinal axis of the dielectric antenna is oriented in a horizontal orientation, the relative permittivity peaks at a largest negative vertical deviation from the longitudinal axis and varies along a vertical axis of the dielectric antenna as a monotonically decreasing function from the largest negative vertical deviation from the longitudinal axis to a largest positive vertical deviation from the longitudinal axis;
- a cable comprising a dielectric core coupled to a feed point of the dielectric antenna;
- and
- a transmitter, coupled to the cable, the transmitter facilitating a transmission of electromagnetic waves, the electromagnetic waves guided by the dielectric core, without an electrical return path, to the feed point of the dielectric antenna.
1 more element
An antenna structure, comprising:
- a feed point that facilitates coupling to a dielectric core that supplies electromagnetic waves to the feed point;
- and
- a solid dielectric antenna coupled to the feed point for receiving the electromagnetic waves, the solid dielectric antenna having a non-uniform spatial distribution of relative permittivity, wherein, when a longitudinal axis of the dielectric antenna is oriented in a horizontal orientation, the relative permittivity peaks at a largest negative vertical deviation from the longitudinal axis and varies along a vertical axis of the solid dielectric antenna as a monotonically decreasing function from the largest negative vertical deviation from the longitudinal axis to a largest positive vertical deviation from the longitudinal axis.
An antenna, comprising:
- three or more dielectric sections each composed of a different dielectric material, the three of more dielectric sections each comprising a corresponding lateral slice of a solid horn, wherein, when a longitudinal axis of the dielectric antenna is oriented in a horizontal orientation, the relative permittivity peaks at a largest negative vertical deviation from the longitudinal axis and varies along a vertical axis of the dielectric antenna as a monotonically decreasing function from the largest negative vertical deviation from the longitudinal axis to a largest positive vertical deviation from the longitudinal axis.
