## Abstract

Managing workflow on a plurality of installed application components that interact with a central hosted component is disclosed. A rule defined on the central hosted component is obtained. A new action item to be executed on an installed application component in the plurality of installed application components is generated at least in part by applying the obtained rule based at least in part on data provided by the installed application component and information that is managed by the central hosted component. The new action item to be executed by the installed application component is communicated. The new action item modifies a workflow on the installed application component without modifying application code on the installed application component.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A method, comprising:
receiving, from an application component installed at a remote site associated with a first insurance carrier, insurance related data associated with an insurance entity that is being operated on by a workflow performed by the application component installed at the remote site associated with the first insurance carrier;
based at least in part on the insurance related data received from the application component associated with the first insurance carrier and insurance related data received, over a network, from a second application component associated with a second insurance carrier different from the first insurance carrier, generating, using one or more processors, a new action item to be executed by the application component installed at the remote site associated with the first insurance carrier; and
transmitting, to the application component installed at the remote site associated with the first insurance carrier, the new action item generated based at least in part on the insurance related data received from the application components associated with the first and second insurance carriers, wherein the transmitted action item, when executed by the application component associated with the first insurance carrier, modifies the workflow performed by the application component installed at the remote site associated with the first insurance carrier without modifying application code on the application component associated with the first insurance carrier.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein the new action item is generated based at least in part on a rule defined at a central hosted component.

### Claim 3 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein the new action item includes one or more of an insurance related activity, underwriting issue, alert, notification, hold, trouble ticket, or block.

### Claim 4 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, further comprising identifying an insurance entity of interest that is associated with the workflow.

### Claim 5 (depends on 4)

The method of claim 4, wherein identifying the insurance entity is based at least in part on geographical bounds.

### Claim 6 (depends on 4)

The method of claim 4, wherein the workflow is determined based at least in part on a characteristic of the insurance entity.

### Claim 7 (depends on 4)

The method of claim 4, wherein the insurance entity includes at least one of a claim, policy, or account.

### Claim 8 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, further comprising obtaining data from an external third-party source that is unavailable to the application component installed at the remote site associated with the first insurance carrier.

### Claim 9

A system, comprising:
one or more processors configured to:
receive, from an application component installed at a remote site associated with a first insurance carrier, insurance related data associated with an insurance entity that is being operated on by a workflow performed by the application component installed at the remote site associated with the first insurance carrier;
based at least in part on the insurance related data received from the application component associated with the first insurance carrier and insurance related data received, over a network, from a second application component associated with a second insurance carrier different from the first insurance carrier, generating a new action item to be executed by the application component installed at the remote site associated with the first insurance carrier; and
transmit, to the application component installed at the remote site associated with the first insurance carrier the new action item generated based at least in part on the insurance related data received from the application components associated with the first and second insurance carriers, wherein the transmitted action item, when executed by the application component associated with the first insurance carrier, modifies the workflow performed by the application component installed at the remote site associated with the first insurance carrier without modifying application code on the application component associated with the first insurance carrier; and
a memory coupled to the one or more processors and configured to provide the one or more processors with instructions.

### Claim 10 (depends on 9)

The system of claim 9, wherein the new action item is generated based at least in part on a rule defined at a central hosted component.

### Claim 11 (depends on 9)

The system of claim 9, wherein the new action item includes one or more of an insurance related activity, underwriting issue, alert, notification, hold, trouble ticket, or block.

### Claim 12 (depends on 9)

The system of claim 9, further comprising identifying an insurance entity of interest that is associated with the workflow.

### Claim 13 (depends on 12)

The system of claim 12, wherein identifying the insurance entity is based at least in part on geographical bounds.

### Claim 14 (depends on 12)

The system of claim 12, wherein the workflow is determined based at least in part on a characteristic of the insurance entity.

### Claim 15 (depends on 12)

The system of claim 12, wherein the insurance entity includes at least one of a claim, policy, or account.

### Claim 16 (depends on 9)

The system of claim 9, wherein the one or more processors are further configured to obtain data from an external third-party source that is unavailable to application component installed at the remote site associated with the first insurance carrier.

### Claim 17

A computer program product embodied in a non-transitory computer readable storage medium and comprising computer instructions for:
receiving, from an application component installed at a remote site associated with a first insurance carrier, insurance related data associated with an insurance entity that is being operated on by a workflow performed by the application component installed at the remote site associated with the first insurance carrier;
based at least in part on the insurance related data received from the application component associated with the first insurance carrier and insurance related data received, over a network, from a second application component associated with a second insurance carrier different from the first insurance carrier, generating, using one or more processors, a new action item to be executed by the application component installed at the remote site associated with the first insurance carrier; and
transmitting, to the application component installed at the remote site associated with the first insurance carrier the new action item generated based at least in part on the insurance related data received from the application component associated with the first and second insurance carriers, wherein the transmitted action item, when executed by the application component associated with the first insurance carrier modifies the workflow performed by the application component installed at the remote site associated with the first insurance carrier without modifying application code on the application component associated with the first insurance carrier.

### Claim 18 (depends on 17)

The computer program product of claim 17, wherein the new action item is generated based at least in part on a rule defined at a central hosted component.

### Claim 19 (depends on 17)

The computer program product of claim 17, wherein the new action item includes one or more of an insurance related activity, underwriting issue, alert, notification, hold, trouble ticket, or block.

### Claim 20 (depends on 17)

The computer program product of claim 17, further comprising identifying an insurance entity of interest that is associated with the workflow.

### Claim 21 (depends on 20)

The computer program product of claim 20, wherein identifying the insurance entity is based at least in part on geographical bounds.

### Claim 22 (depends on 20)

The computer program product of claim 20, wherein the workflow is determined based at least in part on a characteristic of the insurance entity.

### Claim 23 (depends on 20)
