Abstract

Adhesive articles that include a substrate and a silicone adhesive are disclosed. The articles also include a polymer containing poly(propylene oxide) units and optionally poly(ethylene oxide) units and having a number average molecular weight of at least 1000 grams per mole. The polymer may either be incorporated into the substrate or may be used as a primer on the substrate. If the polymer includes poly(ethylene oxide) units, the copolymer typically has a weight ratio of poly(ethylene oxide) to poly(propylene oxide) of up to 3:1, or if the copolymer has a number average molecular weight of at least 10,000 grams per mole, the weight ratio of poly(ethylene oxide) to poly(propylene oxide) is up to 2:1. Methods of making the adhesive articles are also disclosed.

Dependent claims

An adhesive article comprising:

a substrate comprising at least one of a thermoplastic polyurethane or a polyester;
a primer layer disposed on the substrate, the primer layer comprising a polymer;
and
a silicone adhesive disposed on the primer layer,
wherein the polymer is a copolymer of poly(ethylene oxide) and poly(propylene oxide) having a number average molecular weight of at least 10,000 grams per mole and a weight ratio of poly(ethylene oxide) to poly(propylene oxide) of up to 2:1 or a thermoplastic polyurethane or thermoplastic polyester comprising copolymerized poly(ethylene oxide) and poly(propylene oxide) segments,
wherein the copolymerized poly(ethylene oxide) and poly(propylene oxide) segments have a number average molecular weight of at least 10,000 grams per mole and a weight ratio of poly(ethylene oxide) to poly(propylene oxide) of up to 2:1.
