## Abstract

The present invention relates to a Solanum lycopersicum seed designated 72-002 RZ. The present invention also relates to a Solanum lycopersicum plant produced by growing the 72-002 RZ seed. The invention further relates to methods for producing the tomato cultivar, represented by tomato variety 72-002 RZ.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A Solanum lycopersicum plant designated 72-002 RZ, representative seed of which having been deposited under NCIMB Accession No. 42981.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The plant as claimed in claim 1, which is grown from seed having been deposited under NCIMB Accession No. 42981.

### Claim 3 (depends on 1)

A seed that produces the plant of claim 1.

### Claim 4 (depends on 1)

A part of the plant of claim 1, wherein said part of the plant is suitable for sexual reproduction.

### Claim 5 (depends on 4)

The part of the plant as claimed in claim 4, wherein said part comprises a microspore, pollen, an ovary, an ovule, an embryo sac, or an egg cell.

### Claim 6 (depends on 1)

A part of the plant of claim 1, wherein said part of the plant is suitable for vegetative reproduction.

### Claim 7 (depends on 6)

The part of the plant as claimed in claim 6, wherein said part comprises a cutting, a root, a stem, a cell, or a protoplast.

### Claim 8 (depends on 1)

A tissue culture of regenerable cells or protoplasts from the tomato plant of claim 1.

### Claim 9 (depends on 8)

The tissue culture of claim 8, wherein the cells or protoplasts are obtained from a leaf, pollen, a cotyledon, a hypocotyl, a meristematic cell, a root, a root tip, an anther, a flower, or a stem.

### Claim 10 (depends on 1)

A method for producing a progeny plant of the Solanum lycopersicum plant of claim 1, comprising crossing the plant of claim 1 with itself or with another Solanum lycopersicum plant, harvesting the resultant seed, and growing said seed.

### Claim 11 (depends on 1)

A progeny of the Solanum lycopersicum plant of claim 1, having all the morphological and physiological characteristics as found in tomato variety 72-002 RZ, representative seed of which having been deposited under NCIMB Accession No. 42981.

### Claim 12 (depends on 1)

A method of producing a Solanum lycopersicum plant derived from hybrid Solanum lycopersicum variety 72-002 RZ, comprising the steps:
a) preparing a progeny plant derived from hybrid Solanum lycopersicum variety 72-002 RZ by crossing the plant of claim 1 with itself or a second Solanum lycopersicum plant;
b) crossing the progeny plant with itself or a second Solanum lycopersicum plant to produce a seed of a progeny plant of a subsequent generation;
c) growing a progeny plant of the subsequent generation from said seed and crossing the progeny plant of the subsequent generation with itself or a second Solanum lycopersicum plant; and
d) repeating steps b) and c) for at least 3 more generations to produce a Solanum lycopersicum plant derived from the hybrid Solanum lycopersicum variety 72-002 RZ.

### Claim 13 (depends on 1)

A method of producing a tomato fruit comprising: (a) obtaining the plant according to claim 1, wherein the plant has been cultivated to develop fruit; and (b) collecting a tomato fruit from the plant.

### Claim 14 (depends on 13)

A fruit produced by the method of claim 13, wherein the fruit comprises all the morphological and physiological characteristics of hybrid tomato variety 72-002 RZ.

### Claim 15

A method for producing a seed of a 72-002 RZ-derived tomato plant comprising
(a) crossing a plant of tomato variety 72-002 RZ, representative seed of which having been deposited under NCIMB Accession No. 42981, with itself or a second tomato plant, and
(b) obtaining seed of a 72-002 RZ-derived tomato plant.

### Claim 16 (depends on 15)

The method of claim 15 further comprising (c) crossing a plant grown from 72-002 RZ-derived tomato seed with itself or with a second tomato plant to yield additional 72-002 RZ-derived tomato seed, (d) growing the additional 72-002 RZ-derived tomato seed of step (c) to yield additional 72-002 RZ-derived tomato plants, and (e) repeating the crossing and growing of steps (c) and (d) for an additional 3-10 generations to generate further 72-002 RZ-derived tomato plants.

### Claim 17

A method of determining the genotype of a plant of tomato variety 72-002 RZ, representative seed of which has been deposited under NCIMB Accession No. 42981, or a first generation progeny thereof, comprising
obtaining a sample of nucleic acids from said plant, or a first generation progeny thereof,
comparing said nucleic acids to a sample of nucleic acids obtained from a reference plant, and
detecting a plurality of polymorphisms between the two nucleic acid samples, thereby determining the genotype of a plant of tomato variety 72-002 RZ.

### Claim 18 (depends on 17)

The method of claim 17 additionally comprising the step of
storing the results of detecting the plurality of polymorphisms on a computer readable medium, or transmitting the results of detecting the plurality of polymorphisms to a computer readable medium.

### Claim 19 (depends on 1)

A Solanum lycopersicum plant having all the morphological and physiological characteristics of the Solanum lycopersicum plant of claim 1, wherein the morphological and physiological characteristics are as found in tomato variety 72-002 RZ, representative seed of which having been deposited under NCIMB Accession No. 42981.
