A gas discharge lamp comprising a cylindrical outer bulb providing an enclosure in which a burner including two electrodes each having an electrode connection is arranged, wherein the cylindrical outer bulb hermetically seals the enclosure against the outside and the cylindrical outer bulb is made from doped quartz glass containing samarium.
