Abstract
A ball and socket assembly including a ball component with a notch formed therein. The socket is a one-piece structure including an opening sized to receive the ball component. The ball is a capable of being inserted into the socket when the notch, cavity, or undercut is properly oriented relative to the opening of the one-piece socket.
Claims6
A ball and socket assembly, comprising:
- a generally non-deformable ball component having a surface forming a portion of a sphere;
- an elongated shaft coupled to said ball component;
- a single piece, generally non-deformable socket component, the socket including a bearing surface defining a contour assuming a portion of a sphere and an opening that is smaller than the diameter of the ball component in at least one diameter;
- wherein the ball component includes a cavity formed therein;
- and
- wherein the assembly includes a filler component sized to fit the cavity.
