Abstract
A solid state method of producing inorganic nanoparticles using glass is disclosed. The nanoparticles may not be formed until the glass is reacted with or degraded by contact with a fluid in vivo or in vitro.
Claims13
A method for making nanoparticles, comprising:
- mixing a glass raw material with a nanoparticle base material to form a parent glass mixture;
- heating the parent glass mixture to a first temperature, forming a parent glass melt;
- cooling the parent glass melt to a second temperature to solidify the parent glass melt, forming a parent glass;
- heat or thermal treating the parent glass to form the nanoparticle base material into a plurality of nanoparticles suspended within the glass raw material, wherein contacting the glass raw material with the solvent or fluid releases the plurality of nanoparticles, and
- contacting the parent glass with a body fluid, wherein the parent glass is reacted or degraded in vivo.
