Abstract
A combustion system such as a furnace or boiler includes a perforated reaction holder configured to hold a combustion reaction that produces very low oxides of nitrogen (NOx).
Claims8
A combustion system, comprising:
- a fuel and oxidant source configured to output fuel and oxidant into a combustion volume;
- and a perforated reaction holder disposed in the combustion volume and including fibers that define a plurality of perforations aligned to receive a mixture of the fuel and oxidant from the fuel and oxidant source and to support a combustion reaction of the fuel and oxidant within the perforations;
- wherein the fibers are reticulated ceramic fibers wherein the perforations are branching perforations that weave around and through the reticulated fibers that cause branching of oxidation fluid flow paths.
A combustion system, comprising:
- a fuel and oxidant source configured to output fuel and oxidant into a combustion volume;
- and a perforated reaction holder including:
- an input surface;
- an output surface;
- and a plurality of fibers defining a plurality of perforations extending between the input surface and the output surface, wherein the perforated reaction holder is aligned to receive a mixture of the fuel and oxidant into the perforations and to support a combustion reaction of the fuel and oxidant within the perforations;
- wherein the fibers are reticulated ceramic fibers wherein the perforations are branching perforations that weave around and through the reticulated fibers that cause branching of oxidation fluid flow paths.
