Enteral feeding extension set connector

An extension set feeding tube connector for coupling a feeding or nutritional fluid supply tube to the head of an enteral feeding catheter device having a circular hub having a generally horizontal top surface that extends radially outward over a generally vertical side surface to define a circumferential recess in the side surface of the circular hub, the connector comprising:

• a resilient assembly having a central support;
• a cover extending over and circumferentially around the central support, the cover defining a distal-most portion of the connector relative to the head of the enteral feeding catheter;
• a plurality of release buttons formed separately from the cover and extending from the central support, each release button having a first portion including a finger contact zone and a second portion including a catch, the catch configured to releasably engage a circumferential recess defined in a side surface of the circular hub;
• a conduit defining a fluid pathway through the connector to the enteral feeding catheter device, the conduit formed by the cover and extending through a space in the central support, the conduit having a proximal end configured to mate with a lumen in the enteral feeding catheter device, the proximal end extending below a bottom surface of the cover;
• the conduit further comprising an opposite distal end that extends radially outward beyond the bottom surface of the cover for mating with the medical supply tube, the opposite distal end defining an uppermost dimension of the cover;
• the finger contact zone of the release buttons extending radially outward from the cover and movable relative to the cover and central support radially inward into recesses defined in the cover;
• and
• wherein the connector is coupled to the circular hub having a generally horizontal top surface that extends radially outward over the generally vertical side surface to define a circumferential recess by the catches that engage the circumferential recess such that the connector is free to rotate completely about the circular hub, and wherein the connector decouples from the circular hub by pressing the release buttons radially inward to reversibly displace the respective catches radially outward to disengage from the circumferential recess.
