Wireless provisioning a device for a network using a soft access point

A method of enabling connection of a first device to a wireless network, the method comprising:

• in response to a user request to connect the first device to the wireless network, configuring a computing device as a soft access point that provides access point functionality for the wireless network;
• broadcasting, from the computing device, an indication that the computing device is configured to be the soft access point;
• receiving, by the computing device configured as the soft access point, a connection request;
• and
• communicating, via the computing device configured as the soft access point, a network profile for connecting the first device to the wireless network.

A wireless device, comprising:

• a memory and a processor, wherein the memory and the processor are respectively configured to store and execute instructions for performing operations, the operations comprising:
• in response to a request to connect another device to a wireless network, configuring the wireless device as a soft access point;
• broadcasting, from the wireless device, an indication that the wireless device is operating as the soft access point and is providing access point functionality for the wireless network;
• receiving, by the wireless device that is configured as the soft access point, a connection request;
• and
• transmitting, by the wireless device that is configured as the soft access point, a network profile for connecting the other device to the wireless network.
