## Abstract

A gun standoff device may include an elongated body having crenulations at a first end and an attachment mechanism at a second end. The crenulations at the first end may provide a plurality of radially disposed teeth about the circumference of the first end. The attachment mechanism may allow attachment of the elongated body to a gun barrel, a gun magazine, or other gun component.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A standoff device for a gun comprising:
an elongated body disposed between a proximal end and a distal end having a bore extending longitudinally therethrough,
wherein the elongated body is circumferentially crenelated at the distal end so as to form a plurality of radially disposed pointed tooth members; and
at least one attachment structure at the proximal end, the attachment structure configured to attach to a magazine tube or magazine tube extension; and
wherein the radially disposed pointed tooth members have angled planar surfaces that slope radially toward the distal end to form tooth end points and the angled planar surfaces are rotationally aligned with the tooth end points such that the device may be used as a puncturing close-quarters weapon.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The device of claim 1, further comprising a collar, the collar being disposed at the proximal end of the elongated body and extending a distance proximally.

### Claim 3 (depends on 1)

The device of claim 1, further comprising one or more ports disposed through the elongated body and providing fluid communication therethrough.

### Claim 4 (depends on 1)

The device of claim 1, further comprising a plurality of recesses radially disposed along at least a portion of an outer circumferential surface of the device.

### Claim 5 (depends on 1)

The device of claim 1, wherein the attachment structure is an attachment skirt, the attachment skirt being disposed at the proximal end of the elongated body and extending a distance proximally.

### Claim 6 (depends on 5)

The device of claim 5, wherein the attachment skirt comprises a slot, the slot being configured to allow placement of the standoff device without interference from a magazine tube, magazine tube extension, magazine tube extension mount, or magazine cap.

### Claim 7 (depends on 5)

The device of claim 5, wherein the attachment skirt comprises at least one attachment hole, the attachment hole or attachment holes being capable of accepting a set screw or set screws.

### Claim 8 (depends on 1)

The device of claim 1, further comprising a plurality of ports disposed through the elongated body and providing fluid communication with the bore.

### Claim 9

A standoff device for a gun comprising:
an elongated body disposed between a proximal end and a distal end having a bore extending longitudinally therethrough,
wherein the elongated body is circumferentially crenelated at the distal end so as to form a plurality of radially disposed pointed tooth members, sides of the pointed tooth members formed by spaced notches having multiple curved contours, each contour increasing in curvature toward the distal end; and
wherein the radially disposed pointed tooth members have angled planar surfaces that slope radially toward the distal end to form tooth end points such that the device may be used as a puncturing close-quarters weapon.

### Claim 10 (depends on 9)

The device of claim 9, wherein elongated body is configured to extend beyond a barrel of the gun.

### Claim 11 (depends on 9)

The device of claim 9, wherein the radially disposed tooth members comprise angled outer tooth surfaces which slope radially inward in a distal direction.

### Claim 12 (depends on 9)

The device of claim 9, wherein a length to diameter ratio of the standoff device is about five to one.

### Claim 13 (depends on 9)

The device of claim 9, wherein a length to diameter ratio of the standoff device is between about two to one to about four to one.

### Claim 14 (depends on 9)

The device of claim 9, wherein a length to diameter ratio of the standoff device is about three to one.

### Claim 15

A standoff device for attachment to a component of a gun, comprising:
an elongated body disposed between a proximal end and a distal end having a bore extending longitudinally therethrough, wherein the elongated body is circumferentially crenelated at the distal end so as to form a plurality of radially disposed pointed tooth members, sides of the tooth members formed by spaced notches having multiple curved contours, each contour increasing in curvature toward the distal end such that the device may be used as a close-quarters weapon;
wherein the radially disposed pointed tooth members have angled planar surfaces that slope radially toward the distal end to form tooth end points such that the device may be used as a puncturing close-quarters weapon; and
at least one attachment structure at the proximal end configured to attach to a magazine tube or magazine tube extension.

### Claim 16 (depends on 15)

The device of claim 15, further comprising an inner shoulder integrally formed with the elongated body and extending radially inward into the bore.

### Claim 17 (depends on 16)

The device of claim 16, further comprising a secondary shoulder integrally formed with the elongated body and extending radially inward into the bore a greater distance than the inner shoulder.

### Claim 18 (depends on 16)

The device of claim 16, further comprising a plurality of threaded attachment holes circumferentially spaced about the one attachment structure, the threaded attachment holes each being configured to receive a complimentarily threaded set screw.

### Claim 19 (depends on 16)

The device of claim 16, further comprising a plurality of ports disposed through the elongated body and providing fluid communication with the bore.

### Claim 20 (depends on 16)

The device of claim 16, wherein the attachment structure includes an internally threaded portion that engages an externally threaded portion of the magazine tube or the magazine tube extension or an externally threaded portion that engages an internally threaded portion of the magazine tube or the magazine tube extension.
