## Abstract

A graft composition intended for transplantation into a human patient comprises an injection solution comprising an isolated therapeutic cell transplant, wherein the therapeutic cell transplant is therapeutic to a human patient, and dextran sulfate, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, having an average molecular weight of less than 20,000 Da.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A graft composition intended for transplantation into a human patient, comprising an injection solution which is pharmaceutically acceptable for human injection and which comprises an isolated therapeutic cell transplant, wherein the therapeutic cell transplant is therapeutic to a human patient and comprises cells selected from the group consisting of insulin-producing beta-cells and embryonic xenogeneic neural cells, and dextran sulfate, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, having an average molecular weight of less than 20,000 Da.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The graft composition according to claim 1, wherein said dextran sulfate, or said pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, has an average molecular weight of less than 10,000 Da.

### Claim 3 (depends on 2)

The graft composition according to claim 2, wherein said dextran sulfate, or said pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, has an average sulfur content of 10 to 25%.

### Claim 4 (depends on 3)

The graft composition according to claim 3, wherein said dextran sulfate, or said pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, has an average sulfur content of 15 to 20%.

### Claim 5 (depends on 1)

The graft composition according to claim 1, wherein said dextran sulfate, or said pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, has an average molecular weight of about 5,000 Da.

### Claim 6 (depends on 5)

The graft composition according to claim 5, wherein said dextran sulfate, or said pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, has an average sulfur content of 10 to 25%.

### Claim 7 (depends on 6)

The graft composition according to claim 6, wherein said dextran sulfate, or said pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, has an average sulfur content of 15 to 20%.

### Claim 8 (depends on 1)

The graft composition according to claim 1, wherein said dextran sulfate, or said pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, has an average sulfur content of 10 to 25%.

### Claim 9 (depends on 8)

The graft composition according to claim 8, wherein said dextran sulfate, or said pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, has an average sulfur content of 15 to 20%.

### Claim 10 (depends on 1)

The graft composition according to claim 1, wherein said injection solution which is pharmaceutically acceptable for human injection is adapted for injection into the liver via the portal vein of said patient.

### Claim 11 (depends on 1)

The graft composition according to claim 1, wherein said injection solution which is pharmaceutically acceptable for human injection comprises saline.

### Claim 12 (depends on 1)

The graft composition according to claim 1, wherein a concentration of said dextran sulfate, or said pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, in said graft composition is effective to provide a therapeutic concentration of said dextran sulfate, or said pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, of less than 5 mg/ml at a transplantation site in said patient.

### Claim 13 (depends on 12)

The graft composition according to claim 12, wherein said concentration of said dextran sulfate, or said pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, in said graft composition is effective to provide a therapeutic concentration of said dextran sulfate, or said pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, of 0.01 to 1.0 mg/ml at a transplantation site in said patient.

### Claim 14 (depends on 13)

The graft composition according to claim 13, wherein said concentration of said dextran sulfate, or said pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, in said graft composition is effective to provide a therapeutic concentration of said dextran sulfate, or said pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, of 0.01 to 0.2 mg/ml at a transplantation site in said patient.

### Claim 15 (depends on 1)

The graft composition according to claim 1, wherein the therapeutic cell transplant comprises insulin-producing beta-cells.

### Claim 16 (depends on 15)

The graft composition according to claim 15, wherein the insulin-producing beta-cells comprise islets of Langerhans.

### Claim 17 (depends on 1)

The graft composition according to claim 1, wherein the therapeutic cell transplant comprises embryonic xenogeneic neural cells.
