## Abstract

A dentifrice composition containing a polyethylene glycol having an average molecular weight of from about 3,000 to about 8,000, glycerin, precipitated silica, and a fluoride source. The polyethylene glycol forms a crystalline structure in the composition and the composition has a water activity from about 0.25 to about 0.46 measured at about 22° C.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A dentifrice composition comprising:
a. a polyethylene glycol having an average molecular weight of from about 3,000 to about 8,000;
b. from about 29% to about 44%, by weight of the composition, glycerin;
c. an abrasive silica; and
d. from about 5% to about 12%, by weight of the composition, water;
e. a fluoride source selected from the group consisting of stannous fluoride, sodium fluoride, sodium monofluorophosphate, and mixtures thereof;
wherein the polyethylene glycol forms a crystalline structure in the composition and wherein the composition has a water activity from about 0.25 to about 0.46 measured at about 22° C.; and
wherein the abrasive silica has an average particle size ranging between about 0.1 to about 30 microns.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The dentifrice composition of claim 1, wherein the abrasive is a precipitated silica.

### Claim 3 (depends on 1)

The dentifrice composition of claim 1 further comprising from about 0.25% to about 7%, by weight of the composition, polyethylene glycol.

### Claim 4 (depends on 1)

The dentifrice composition of claim 1 comprising from about 50 ppm to about 3500 ppm of the fluoride source.

### Claim 5 (depends on 1)

The dentifrice composition of claim 1 further comprising sodium polyphosphate.

### Claim 6 (depends on 1)

The dentifrice composition of claim 1 further comprising propylene glycol.

### Claim 7 (depends on 1)

The dentifrice composition of claim 1 further comprising from about 0% to about 1.5% by weight of the composition, of a viscosity modifier selected from gums, binders, cellulosic thickeners, and combinations thereof.

### Claim 8 (depends on 1)

A method of making the dentifrice composition of claim 1 wherein the polyethylene glycol is added to the composition in solution with solvent or is added in a controlled manner as a molten material to the composition at a temperature less than about 35° C. and with turbulent mixing or vigorous agitation.
