Abstract
Provided herein are compositions, CO2-permeable/selective membranes and related methods of making and using the membranes. Ionically cross-linked poly(ether)-based membranes were prepared for applications relating to CO2. These films were studied for their thermal curing behavior using DSC. The resulting free-standing membranes have Tgs near −64° C., TdS up to 230° C., and Young's modulus up to 4.2 MPa. These membranes showed CO2 permeabilities of 84-110 Barrer and CO2/N2 selectivity of 20-40.
Claims23
A method of making an ionic copolymer composition, comprising:
- a. mixing in a reaction mixture:
- i. a first monomer having the structure C≡C—CH2—R—CH2—C≡C, where R comprises a polyether moiety;
- ii. a second monomer having the structure N3—R′—N3, where R′ is the same as, or different from R and comprises a polyether moiety;
- and
- iii. a cross-linker comprising a moiety selected from the group consisting of C5 to C20 alkyl, C5 to C20 aryl, poly(C2-C8 alkylene glycol) with from 1 to 20 (C2-C8 alkylene glycol) residues, and Si2-Si20 poly(di-C1-C8 alkyl siloxane), and two or more quaternizing groups;
- and
- b. heating the reaction mixture from 50° C. to 170 ° C., for at least four hours to form an ionic copolymer composition.
An ionic copolymer composition comprising poly(C2-C8 alkylene glycol) moieties comprising from 2 to 100 contiguous alkylene glycol residues, covalently attached to triazolium moieties, and a crosslinker attached to one or more of the triazolium moieties, the crosslinker comprising one of a C5 to C20 alkyl, a C5 to C20 aryl, a poly(C2-C8 alkylene glycol) with from 1 to 20 (C2-C8 alkylene glycol) residues, or a Si2-Si20 poly(di-C1-C8 alkyl siloxane) moiety.
