Abstract
A filter assembly includes a filter pad comprising fibers including natural, synthetic and/or hybrid fibers. A stabilizer frame formed of a non-metallic material may be imbedded in the filter pad. The stabilizer frame may be configured to provide support to the filter pad to maintain the filter pad in a generally flat configuration. In accordance with a particular embodiment, the filter pad may be comprised of at least first and second fibrous mats that are coupled together. In this embodiment, the stabilizer frame may be disposed between and coupled with the first and second fibrous mats.
Claims20
A filter assembly for installation within a ventilation hood, comprising:
- a filter pad comprising a combination of wool fibers and viscose fibers and having a thickness and configuration sufficient to allow airflow therethrough and to absorb grease particulates dispersed in the air passing therethrough;
- and
- a fire-resistant stabilizer frame configured to provide support to the filter pad to maintain the filter pad in a generally flat configuration and to allow installation of the filter pad within the ventilation hood;
- wherein:
- the viscose fibers comprise less than 50% of the filter pad;
- and
- the filter assembly is located upstream of a baffle filter installed within the ventilation hood.
A method of manufacture, comprising:
- combining wool fibers and viscose fibers to form a filter pad, wherein:
- the viscose fibers comprise less than 50% of the filter pad;
- and
- the filter pad has a thickness and configuration sufficient to absorb grease particulates dispersed in the air passing therethrough;
- coupling the filter pad with a stabilizer frame to form a filter assembly, wherein:
- the stabilizer frame is fire resistant and configured to provide support to the filter pad to maintain the filter pad in a generally flat configuration and to allow installation of the filter pad within a ventilation hood.
A filter pad comprising a combination of wool fibers and viscose fibers, the filter pad having a loft sufficient to allow airflow therethrough and the filter pad being configured to absorb grease particulates dispersed in the air passing therethrough, wherein:
- the viscose fibers comprise less than 50% of the filter pad;
- at least a portion of the viscose fibers or the wool fibers are treated with a solution that is fire resistant or fire retardant;
- and
- the wool fibers and the viscose fibers being bonded together with a bonding emulsion.
A filter pad comprising a combination of wool fibers and viscose fibers, the filter pad having a loft sufficient to allow airflow therethrough and the filter pad being configured to absorb grease particulates dispersed in the air passing therethrough, wherein:
- the viscose fibers comprise more than 50% of the filter pad;
- at least a portion of the viscose fibers or the wool fibers are treated with a solution that is fire resistant or fire retardant;
- and
- the wool fibers and the viscose fibers being bonded together with a bonding emulsion.
