Drive system for personal-care appliance and method of operation thereof

A personal care apparatus with active vibration dampening, comprising:

• a body having at least one wall) and an opening, wherein the at least one wall defines at least a part of a cavity;
• first and second bearings situated apart from each other within the cavity, the first and second bearings being fixedly coupled to the body within the cavity;
• an outer stator that comprises a stator casing movably coupled within the cavity, the outer stator being configured to translate both axially and rotationally through a range of motion relative to the body;
• and
• an inner rotor that comprises a rotor situated partly within the stator casing, the inner rotor being configured to translate both axially and rotationally through a range of motion relative to the outer stator, wherein the rotor comprises an output shaft and a section that includes at least one magnet, wherein the output shaft extends (i) through the section, (ii) through a cavity of the stator casing, and (iii) through openings in the first and second bearings,
• wherein the stator casing further comprises a portion having at least one electromagnet configured to generate a magnetic field to interact with a magnetic field of the at least one magnet of the rotor to (i) reciprocally drive both the inner rotor and outer stator linearly and rotationally relative to the body and (ii) move the inner rotor and outer stator out of phase with each other both linearly and rotationally so as to dampen vibration of the body.
