Abstract
The disclosure extends to methods, devices, and systems for removing speckle from a coherent light source, such as laser light. The methods, devices, and systems help eliminate or reduce speckle introduced from a coherent light source, such as laser light, by utilizing the teachings and principles of the disclosure.
Claims13
A system for removing speckle from an image frame of a surgical site comprising:
- an imaging device comprising a CMOS image sensor, wherein the CMOS image sensor comprises a pixel array;
- an endoscopic device;
- a pulsing coherent light source for providing light to a surgical site, wherein the light source is pulsed at an interval that corresponds to the operation and functionality of the pixel array of the CMOS image sensor;
- a control unit comprising circuitry for sending data to the CMOS image sensor and receiving data from the CMOS image sensor to create an image frame of the surgical site;
- a display that allows a user to visualize the surgical site;
- a fiber optic bundle connected to the coherent light source, the fiber optic bundle comprising a first fiber optic bundle and a second fiber optic bundle coupled at a junction;
- and
- a vibrating mechanism including a vibrating device disposed in a cavity formed in a connector attached to the fiber optic bundle proximal to the junction where the first fiber optic bundle and the second fiber optic bundle are coupled by the connector, wherein the vibrating mechanism is the only vibrating mechanism coupled along a path of the first fiber optic bundle and the second fiber optic bundle that vibrates both the first fiber optic bundle and the second fiber optic bundle and causes the light to lose coherence momentarily as the geometry of its path is changed by vibration;
- wherein the coherent light source pulses light in a plurality of electromagnetic partitions, such that the pixel array receives electromagnetic energy and produces a data set that corresponds in time with each specific electromagnetic partition.
